New Comics and Reading Discussion - Week of February 8, 2017
Whatcha reading, folks? What did you pick up this week?
My pull list was fairly extensive this week -- and every single issue was flat out good to just outstanding. Impressions and comments to follow, but for now here's what I got:
- All-New Wolverine #17
- Alters #4
- IvX #4
- Jessica Jones #5
- Ms. Marvel #15
- The Totally Awesome Hulk #16
- The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #17
- The Unworthy Thor #4

Catching up on Saga and Shutter this month.
All-New Wolverine was great. I like the idea that steps are being taken to finally move Laura past the trigger scent. This feels like a real step forward in the development of the character.
Poor Colossus is sure outnumbered by the Inhumans still in Limbo. Give 'em hell Piotr!
Unworthy Thor read like a Thor: God of Thunder issue. And it looks like the series may conclude with the revelation of What Nick Fury Said™.
The new Unbeatable Squirrel Girl really felt like a move forward in the story as well. We might have a character who is a permanent foil to Doreen. And she's attacking Doreen in subtle ways, similar to how Doreen often beats villains by doing anything but punching them. This series continues to be entertaining as hell.
Totally Awesome Hulk ws finally entertaining again, after a bit of a lull due to the Space Jam reboot feat. Jeremy Lin. Amadeus sure continues to do incredibly dumb things as the Hulk for such a smart person, though.
Alters continues to be an interesting read. I can't tell if this series is being written for a trade or not, it seems like this first arc still has a lot happening.
I'm not sure what kind of meta commentary that was in Jessica Jones. Am I supposed to care about these stories even though nothing matters? Or am I just part of the joke? I'm not sure.
Ms. Marvel continues to be great, with G Willow Wilson pulling from her experiences online as a MMOROPG player and a woman on Twitter to tell a good story about online culture and bullying. Some people complain that Ms. Marvel is too "on the nose", but that's the exact reason I love it.
