This is another post about the current political climate

[discussion of death in the abstract]

Had dinner with my aunt a few nights ago and, of course, politics came up. I mentioned that I'm expecting at least one person in my friend group to die in the next four years and my aunt was just...shocked.

It's not even that I'm a pessimist--I think most of my friends would agree that I can be irritatingly optimistic at times--but I know that, statistically speaking, my group of friends is going to be hit hard by what's coming. I don't know if it's a generational divide or what, but most of the older people I've talked to have been very "well, it's not gonna be good, but we just gotta batten down the hatches" while most of my peers are very much...planning for funerals even as they try to figure out how to do damage control. (Well, it may be a combination of a generational divide and the fact that the older people I talk to tend to overwhelmingly be straight and cis and white whereas my friends are...not.)

I hope I'm just being paranoid and alarmist, and this isn't anywhere near as bad as we're expecting, but. We'll see.
