Grr,argh
No, Tumblr, the reason I have no desire to watch The Getdown is not because the cast is mostly black and latinx (sp?). The reason I have no desire to watch The Getdown is I really don't care about dancing in the 1970s. Give an all black/latinx cast of superheroes or spaceship pilots and I'll watch the hell out of it. (For example, despite being five episode in, I LIKE Luke Cage, but the super grimdark tone of all the Defenders shows is hard for me to take given the [bleep] show that is the news right now. I predict I'll have as much trouble getting through Iron Fist as well. Oh, right, you hate that show sight unseen because they wouldn't race bend Danny Rand. sighs)

I watched the Get Down and I enjoyed it. Did I enjoy it as much as Stranger Things? No. But it had nothing to do with the cast. I like quirky supernatural/fantasy/sci fi like shows. Put this cast in an urban fantasy and I would have loved it.
Put that cast in an Urban Fantasy and I will happily check it out! (Still need to watch Stranger Things)
It's your job to support certain shows. You get your drinks, fire up Netflix and...!
Yeah, I can't get into it either. I can't stand Sense8. I will give certain shows more chances for certain reasons, but I like what I like. And I don't have infinite TV watching time.
I enjoyed Sense8, but JMS is a fave, so I gave it a few more episodes than I would have normally for something that confusing (that makes perfect sense the second time through.) I hate this notion that you must like things because they're diverse. I didn't get into Ms. Marvel for a year or so because all anyone said was that she's a Muslim. If they'd told my she was an adorable fanfic writer navigating family, high school, and superheroing, I'd have checked it out much sooner!
Uuuuugh. I've seen those posts. I'm right there with you. The setting holds zero interest for me.
From what I've seen, Iron Fist is managing to be terrible race issues completely aside. Which is a let down, cause I've liked all the Defenders stuff so far.
Exactly my problem. I'm looking forward to Bright. I mean Will Smith and SciFi? Totally worth two hours. I don't watch the hype around shows, I prefer to judge for myself. I like the Defenders stuff, just... man, it's got to be watched in small doses when you're not already depressed.
Jessica Jones was especially that way, I thought. I could take at max 2 episodes in a night before needing to take a breather. The grimdark violence of Daredevil was easier than the constant psychological assault. But, I think that's entirely the point and what made Jessica Jones so perfect. Nothing about it should have been easy.
Jessica Jones required pallete cleansers after. Daredevil... I tried to binge S2 in a weekend and got grossed out, it took me six months to watch the last few episodes. I got about 5 days into a one ep a day plan in December and then got lots of DVD sets for Hannukah and got distracted until new episodes were on TV. I could've watched some the last few days, but Leverage was more tempting (I still have a ton of guide skating on the DVR too....)
I think it helps that I watch with a friend and we devote days to marathons. So it, like, ensures that I watch because she's made the trip out here. (Also DD has always been one of my favorite superheroes.)
We're going to watch Iron Fist that way. Although now I'm envisioning writing ranting reviews after. :P
Leverage was so underrated while it was on. Even I underrated it, and I was watching it.
I missed it, so I'm watching it for the first time. It's so fun- except for those bits that make me cry ;)
The DVD commentaries are amazingly informative when it comes to TV-making.
I'm streaming it on Netflix but I'll keep that in mind
