Episode 4 "Fear is Often Greater Than the Danger"
This was the episode that solidified the series for me, as I hadn't started watching it as it aired initally. It had been a midseason replacement for a show I had stopped watching and was catching up on all of the aired episodes at the time.
I was surprised because it focused on a Hero other than the main characters Kotetsu and Barnaby, and really showed the divide between the younger heroes and the older ones; the divide between the sponsoring companies and the Heroes. It also went to show the similarities between Kotetsu and Barnaby. I was also surprised that they chose Karina (the second youngest Hero to focus on)
Episodes 10-13 "The Calm Before the Storm" (10), "The Die is Cast" (11), "Take Heed of the Snake in the Grass" (12),
The Calm Before the Storm (10), The Die is Cast (11), Take Heed of the Snake in the Grass (12), and Confidence is a Plant of Slow Growth (13) are a mini-story arc within the greater storyline.
They're action packed, show great teamwork between the heroes, the growth in Barnaby and Kotetsu's work and personal relationship, and has great villains. It's just a really great set of episodes that play like an action movie and are actually best if they can watched together. This is the set of episodes I show people to get them into the show, and then they can go back and get all the character development and backstory that leads up this arc.
It also helps that I LOVE the villains.
Episode 17 "Blood is Thicker Than Water"
This is one of my favourite episodes because it really shows Kotetsu's interactions with his family. The visit to his hometown was much needed to help Kotetsu grow. My favourite scene from the episode is when Kotetsu is at his brother's bar and talking with him. It's just such a great moment between siblings who otherwise seemed estranged. It goes to show the disconnect between Kotetsu and his family, and goes more into his background.

Glad to see Ep. 17 on here.
I'm still a little disappointed we didn't get episodes for all the heroes, but I do appreciate all the character moments we did get. Sky High's episode is also one of my favorites.
I would have loved an episode for Antonio. Him and Nathan being left out of the main series focus episodes was criminal. I'm glad we got an extended Nathan episode with The Rising though.
Kotetsu going back home in e17 was so very important for his character development. Otherwise he never would have changed throughout the series.
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I didn't and still don't like Sky High's episode. It's absolutely necessary to progress the narrative, but it always made me so uncomfortable. Like I always want to tell Keith to leave the poor girl alone.
Oh, absolutely. I really was waiting for Antonio's episode and it never appeared. And Nathan... it was so hard to watch his parts of The Rising the first time, because he'd always seemed so confident and sure of himself.
I think Keith's episode, aside from moving the plot, helped showcase how awkward and isolated he was, outside of his Sky High rig. And suggested that all of the NEXT might be similarly isolated by their powers, especially those who decide to go into heroing. iirc, Kotetsu was the only one shown to ever have been attached, and Tomoe seemed to be remarkably understanding.
