Random Reviews: Assassin's Creed

Right. Assassin's Creed. The film critics bashed for being "just another video game movie gone wrong." I like to not go with the opinion of critics (I AM A REBEL) and i disagree. Is it the best movie of the year? Not by far. But is it enjoyable? Definitely. Though i do have some gripes about the film, as a hardcore AC fan i still had a good time. Let's break the film down, shall we?

Acting: 7/10. With stars like Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, it's hard to have bad acting. Though it isn't flawless, the acting is believable, and i love Fassbender, so this is a 7 for me

Story: 6/10. I feel like they could have done better here. The movie is more about Callum Lynch (the present day character) than Aguilar (the actual assassin). IMO they spent waaaay to much time in present day. I know it's crucial to the story, but we play the games for the Assassins, not some wonky science stuff. In the beginning i also had a hard time figuring out if the filmmakers were painting the Assassins or the Templars as the bad guys. Later this becomes clear though. I did love that they picked different characters from the games and made it their own story.

Action & Stunts: 9/10. I LOVED the fights in this film. The choreograpy and the parkour is a treat for the eye, and i especially loved that i recognized some of the moves, because i can do em myself! How awesome is that? :D they really made the fights seem assassiny (is that a word? Fuck it, it is now) with extensive use of the hidden blade as a hand to hand combat weapon, as well as assassinations. There are some weird CGI bits here and there that look a bit fake, but overal outstanding!

Looking at this movie from a non fanboy standpoint, i can kinda see where the critics are coming from, but this movie is one giant fanservice for fans of the games. They just wanna see assassins freerun and fight with flashy moves and assassinate. This was never meant to be movie of the century. But they did their best to make it a compelling movie, and for fans, this should be enough! I for one am hoping there will be a sequel!
