The Trump Jr 'Poisoned Skittles' analogy has recently generated outrage and controversy. Turns out is a somewhat well-known logical fallacy which was already debunked years ago.

A few of us were chatting about this in Discord last night. At the risk of Godwinning, I actually think this can be traced to a tale of poisoned mushrooms and Jews in Nazi Germany. The story was told to kids, that they couldn't tell the difference between a poison toadstool and a good toadstool and that not everyone else can either.

I know we try to steer clear of Godwin's Law but it really is difficult with a candidate of a MAJOR POLITICAL PARTY like Trumpster Fire because he thrives on scaremongering and racism and xenophobia and the promise of a horrifying tomorrow if this country fails to stop his ascension.
Well, in my case for many years I taught the Holocaust and Nazi propaganda. I actually was trying to avoid anything from Trump and Co. yesterday because my head needed a break, but in a silly conversation about Brad and Angelina breaking up a Trumpster jumped in with the Skittles story. It seems too similar to the poisoned mushrooms story to not have origins there in some way. I mean, it's obviously been updated to be about the scary refugees instead of Jews, and candy instead of mushrooms. And we can't distinguish bad refugees from good refugees, so why bother with the second part (where the kids learn what Jews look like to be safe). But the general idea is the same.
For the record, I'm a super scary poisonous mushroom Jew. I think the only possible trait I have from their list is talking with my hands. Maybe.
Poisonous mushroom!!!
