What are you looking forward to?

I have a Mother Blessing this weekend and an ultrasound on Monday, both of which I am looking forward to enthusiastically.

A Mother Blessing, that does sound interesting. What is it exactly? And good luck for the ultrasound!

Me - I'm looking forward to finally sleeping enough, getting my paper stacks in better shape and spending a bit of time outdoor in the warm summer sun. Hopefully, no rain!

A Mother Blessing is focused on helping someone (me) transition into being a mother. At mine there will be food, impromptu music, a place for people to write parenting advice, and at the end they will henna my belly. I also asked them to bring a bead they have imbued with blessings or good wishes to make a birthing necklace for me to have with me. I think some of them are bringing 3 beads, one for each baby.

Wonderful, @amandaperl! I'm sending good wishes and blessings. It sounds like a great event. I hope it's as lovely as it sounds.

Thanks! Hope you have lovely weather this weekend!

Oh well, it's the perfect weather to get things done around the house it seems :-).

image-1468771352834.jpg I had a beautiful Mother Blessing with the women from my chorus. They brought beads for my birthing necklace, a few gifts, advice, love, and music. We sang a lot of songs, especially some of the most important and meaningful ones for our group: Welcome to the Circle, which we sing to new singers, and I Am Sending You Light, which we sing to offer support, love, and light in good times and in bad. And they henna'd my belly.

What a lovely celebration, and how fun the henna looks. Such a wonderful tradition!

Today is my sous chef's birthday. I am looking forward to surprising him with gifts as delightfully eccentric as he is, then taking him out to dinner at a place downtown that is so hip it hurts. He has been a joy every single day of his seventeen years. :-)

    • amandaperlJul 19, 2016 at 10:39 PM

That sounds delightful and the usual level of eclectic I have come to expect from you. Also, hi & welcome to Imzy!

I hope it was a lovely birthday and you and the sous chef enjoyed it! And how was the hip place? What did you get? Living vicariously here :-)

        Dear Spatz and Amandaperl,

We all went to Momofuku, where the summerlicious (special prix fixe) is in full swing. I had sake don, which was a bowl of deconstructed sushi, eccentrically spiced. Very delicious. The sous chef had a spicy chicken dan dan noodle bowl, and his father had the same thing with shrimp. I had a seven spice sour - a sake-based slushie. The men had chai cheesecake in a jar and "cereal milk" ice-cream. I bought them both birthday cake truffles, and we all came home to have salted caramel-filled cupcakes with coffee icing. The sous chef enjoyed everything immensely.

Imzy is fun... it is quietly anonymous but not anonymous. Does that make sense? Under the radar.

Ooooh, that's one great menu. I'll have to put Momofuku on the list of things to do once.... And I'm glad the sous chef loved his birthday dinner.

I also like imzy - it's like a quiet cafe, public and private at the same moment. I hope it doesn't get blown up into something else.

        Have a great weekend, dear @StaggeringRat !
