This is a very interesting presentation, especially because it's dealing with the largely unexplored ebook sales market. Basically the interesting points are these:
- 45% of ebooks sold in Amazon are romances
- 90% of romances are digital, and more than a half of that by indie authors
- Certain genres are currently earning a lot more (they're en vogue), such as sports, military and paranormal romances (ewww)
- Your standard book will earn more with some 300-400 pages and with a price of $3.99. Basically 100 pages = $1 in romance...
- ... but there's a very long tail, and you can earn significant earnings 3 years after you published a book.
- There's a clear marginal decrease in earnings: the more books you publish the less your earnings will grow. This makes sense, since you're not going to keep the sales of a book constant forever.
- You want to publish more or less annually
- If you're on a series, giving away the first book makes sense if it's a long series (7+ books)
This was a fun thing to see, especially as a voracious romance reader. I don't use Kindle Unlimited yet because Spain has lots of restrictions on the service, but I'll be moving out soon and I hope I'll get better access.
