Hand embroidery is time consuming, but super easy! It's also a pretty cheap hobby. I would encourage you to check it out.
All you need are:
Embroidery needles (these will be specifically labeled), a hoop, embroidery scissors, and of course, some floss (I prefer DMC brand). I think that if you went to Michaels or another craft store, you could get started with the basic materials for <$10. I usually recommend people to start on old cotton T-shirts but any fabric scraps will do.
Wow, that's phenomenal. And that's by hand? I would've guessed really high end machine.
I've never done embroidery before but I really want to learn how to do something like this (probably a million years of experience, right?)

You can really do a lot with the most basic stitches. Here's some basic ones: http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2014/04/hand-embroidery-stitches/ but I would say 70% of the time you could stick with just knowing how to do a back stitch.
I like this site for reference for more elaborate stitches: http://www.embroidery.rocksea.org/stitch/straight-stitch/straight-stitch/
Feel free to ask me any more questions. It's a really great hobby and really cheap and easy to pick up!!
Thanks for the tips! I'm pretty tempted to try!
Super pretty. Makes me want to get back to it.
That is gorgeous. I'm going to have to try something more like this.
