Outrage

Took Tadpole & Sprout to Ikea recently to get some mattresses. Refused to get them stuffed animals. Tadpole was outraged.

As we left the top floor, she asked why IKEA put all the snuggles at the end. So I explained that while IKEA would be happy if we liked our house, they really just wanted us to buy stuff there. And putting snuggles at the end of a shopping session makes it likely that we'll give in and buy stuff for kids, and that she'll be more tired & more likely to demand snuggles and potentially throw a tantrum, so again more likely we'll buy stuff, which is what IKEA actually cares about.

She was outraged. I've gotten questions about why IKEA doesn't care about our house, declarations that it's not nice to try to make people buy things, and a statement that "when I'm president, people won't be able to put snuggles at the end of the store anymore"

I've rarely been so proud. My child feels betrayed by a beloved corporation. I was probably in my 20s before that happened :)
