The Nonnie Watering Hole. Watch out for dinosaurs.
Friday!
And I'm watching Haven! Audrey just got cocooned by a blanket.
What are you up to? Trick or Treat Nominations? Forging valuable communities on Imzy? Reading all the links at /DeadDove?
Did you know that scientists used whale lice to determine that there are three separate species of whales? The populations were split by the joining of North and South America, and then later by the warming of the equator.

Oh Haven. Oh Audrey.
Oh Duke ;_;
Oh Duke.
...I'm still sad. He was so nice and pretty, Audrey, what the actual hell made you go with Nathan instead? Was it guilt over the touching thing? Some kind of weird thought process where you didn't go 'both...both is good'?
Oh well. Totally not bitter, and definitely over it.
Nonnie help me! I'm currently on a bus filled with my new co workers who all have known each other for years. I'm sitting alone (maybe for the best), and am so obviously the new person. This is four our trip and I don't know what to do! Do I insert myself in the conversations around me? Do I put on my headphones and read that longfic I've been wanting to read? I really don't want a coworker looking over my shoulder and see me reading about cockrings.
I hate awkward social situations like this! I'm awkward enough on my own, I don't need circumstances to help me!
Do you have any questions regarding your job? Ask them that. Like "hey guys, I've been wondering about...", that should give you an opening and allow you to get to know one another.
Try to engage in conversation! I know it's awkward and hard, but it might be good. Plus, you have to get to know them sooner or later.
You can do it! <3
I want to help make the fandom communities on Imzy more active, and the one thing I know I could do would be fanfic. But I'm having an awful battle with writer's block. I haven't really written anything since before moving to Tumblr and somehow I just keep drawing a complete blank on plotting. And feeling super self conscious about sex scene realism too.
Haha, as a Guild Wars 2 fan talking about publishing fanfic, what an appropriate name.
What is /DeadDove? o:
And also, wow, I didn't even realize whales had lice
C/P from the rules: A non-judgmental multifandom space for talking about our fannish interests that are frequently judged and found wanting, based loosely on the Hydra Trash Party. We welcome bad characters doing bad things, morally dubious fictional behavior, and recs. Boy, do we welcome recs.
Ooh interesting. Makes sense why it's invite only I guess thanks!
Finally finished and posted the fic I've been working on for ages, so next up is writing my Yuletide requests. Then either reread some fics I have bookmarked to write up a rec set for Fandom Dealer, or set up a second Imzy comm I have planned.
...But before starting on any of that, I have to do my actual job. So unfair! I already did my job yesterday - what do you mean I have to keep doing it?
The postal service claims my book was delivered. They are generally pretty reliable in my area. So where is the book?!
I will check at the front office again, just in case. (Or I will once the rain lightens up a bit.) Have mercy on me, postal gods! I just want to read the poetry of Maya Angelou! T_T
At work, doin' work.
I've been in kind of a funk lately because it seems like everything is happening this month at work, and that's how I deal with stress, by thinking about how I'm #foreveralone etc. Last night I was getting really down on myself. :( But I'm going to concentrate on how my boss really loved the work I've done on one project so far!
How do they know it wasn't just separate species of whale lice?
DNA and science. >.>
(Sorry nonnie, I'm quoting Wikipedia. I don't actually know anything more than that)
That is very cool indeed. SCIENCE.
Waiting for Trick or Treat Nominations to go through!
+Wondering how to put gifs in comments with giphy (btw, what is giphy???) like I've seen people do in many post comments... Do I need to have gifs of my own to put up? Does giphy supply the gifs?
You've seen this?
That's the code. You can use whatever words you want in it, and it'll search giphy (a gif website) for something with a matching tag, and pop it in there.
You can preview it by clicking the Aa in the lower left corner of the comment box, and then clicking on the eyeball, but you have to click the eyeball again to be able to edit.
Have fun! The results are often unexpected.
I'm getting monkey's pawed for a certain character I like. There was 0 interest in him for forever, and now there's actor crossover, and he's getting fic suddenly, but it's all the most woobie infantalizing crap.
And of course I'm reading it all anyway.
Thinking of noms for both Trick or Treat and Yuletide. So many new fandoms for me! Have to restrict myself somehow.
Also have to catch up on my writing. (Mostly a log about games I play but it's a great way to use my newer fountain pens. My Wild Strawberry ink is getting a lot of use with my RAGE moments. ^^;)
I'd love to read the links at /Deaddove, but nonnies snatched up all the on-meme invites before I could grab one! Much tragedy, so sorrow, etc.
Trying to finish up my Press Start fic atm; I don't have much further to go at all, but I keep getting sidetracked! (Appropriate, I guess, given the type of fest it is.)
Oh, I started listening to I Don't Even Own a Television on nonnies' recommendations and it's made me really want to try my hand at some novel-length origfic. Apparently 'I could do better than THAT!' is a strong motivator in my writing.
I'd never heard of it, so I looked it up. Basically sporking of published work, huh. I thought it might be a bit too mean-spirited for my tastes--and they had the TFA novelization on there, come on, that was gloriously cheesy--but then I saw Stranger in a Strange Land, and. I might have to listen to this.
The thing is that that book could have been great. It starts out really exciting! It has a fascinating concept. But it's so absurdly sexist and homophobic it ends up just crawling up its own ass instead of saying anything interesting. The further it goes on, the more up its own ass it gets. It was a page-turner to begin, and a slog to finish.
Of course, that won't make me want to write my own novel, it'll just make me want to write Stranger in a Strange Land into the book it could have been.
Oh weird, I didn't know that's how restricted communities work.
I love stuff like IDEOaT, and I can even enjoy it when I don't know the books, which is good, because I'd rather not read any of those books.
I'll put a bunch more deaddove invites up on meme before I head out for the weekend!
(DA) More invites here!
Thanks, ParagraphTy and WarsAmy! You're both awesome.
Nothing much! Queuing up posts for my comm, Imzy-wise, and writing down a shopping list. I plan to have a lazy Friday!
How many are you queuing up? And what are you queuing?
...yeah, I'm totally trying to steal ideas.
I go as @noguiltnoshame in Airport Books and I'm typing up awesomely terrible excerpts from adventure thrillers, romances, and biographies. Not sure they'll generate any debate but I hope they make people laugh. You?
/Tragic_magic_ninjas and daily fanfiction recommendations. Thank god for pinboard is all I can say (I've been reading so much fic, omg)
Also doing a lot of silly polls, weekly challenges (just did a drabble week that went GREAT, so excited), discussion posts that I schedule so I won't check them endlessly after I post (nope, still no one!).
Hey, you know that readalong thing meme did for those really awful books, where nonnies would say a number, and op would post the first sentence at that kindle point or page? Could you do those? I bet that would get you participation.
OMG thank you! That is a great idea and I completely forgot we could do that. \o/
No problem, I hope it works!
You could also take random quotes from a book and ask people to match them to the correct book title in a poll.
Quote: "Move over, alien scum, before I reduce you to atomic particles,":
Is that from 1) Kings of Camelot 2) The Red Queen or 3) Dr. Evil's Moon Base?
(I'm starting to feel like there's nothing I can't make a poll out of)
<3 <3 <3
goes to add to her queue
