Still a bit quiet, but Rome wasn't built in a day after all. Imzy is how old? Like a couple months or something? LJ and Tumblr didn't become fandom behemoths overnight. I think Imzy is offering some really important features lacking at the moment on other platforms and, with time, the activity here will grow.
That being said, I try to be the change I want to see and comment and reply on anything I find remotely interesting.
I was so into Imzy at first but now I'm remembering why I always lurk: making content is hard! I don't want to post or comment, I want to read cool stuff /whine
I'm only half joking, work is pretty busy rn and I haven't added any kind of content to imzy and... I don't feel a need for it? IDK, interacting with other fans is cool, but it gets tiring, especially under namespace. I much prefer anonymity these days *shrug*
Pretty good. Most of the places that I expect to have activity have activity, and that's with a pretty small pool of people. I think the public launch will bring more daily posts than I can keep up with.
It's sloooowly starting to pick up and I'm meeting folks and talking with them. My community is quiet, but I have hopes for more activity eventually and frankly anything beats Tumblr for me -- which is just not for me at all. I'm pretty happy here.
It's quiet bordering on dead, maybe it's just the places I hang out? I don't know. My personal experience at the moment, and for the last couple of weeks, has been I make a post or comment on a post and it just sits there and festers. No reaction at all. And I'm almost convinced by this point that going out of beta won't change that. I've been throwing around invites and no one wanted them. People might make accounts to see it, but then they might see that there's not much content beyond people sharing links to other sites and blogs (again, this is my experience), which seems pointless.
I wonder if the fact that they're going to make it "view for a bit and then have to create an account to explore" is going to drive people away. Pinterest drives me nuts for that reason. I don't want a Pinterest account, ya bastiches. Just let me browse!
I think Imzy just isn't big enough yet for single fandom/niche purpose comms to get much action unless they luck out with one or two super-dedicated commenters. (Even when comms may look like they have a fairly big membership, many of them are going to be people joining anything remotely relevant to their interests who may not be super active in that fandom right now and struggle to find anything to say.) But multi-fandom and general chatter spaces seem active enough, so there are definitely people around.
Tentatively positive. Still needs improved threading and more people/activity before I'll feel like it's worth the effort to try to start comms for any of my minuscule fandoms, but overall I like a lot of the feature set and hope it takes off as a discussion space because LJ is increasingly full of tumbleweeds and DW is too insular and unbearably fug for me, and while I do love Tumblr a lot for graphic/multimedia posting, it clunks badly for more text-based activity.
I make posts, but no-one comments on them. I can occasionally get conversations going between me and one other person, but nothing three-way, nothing that doesn't involve me.
Yeah, that's definitely a thing that's pulling me down. There's not a lot of interaction between people, particularly on a group level. It's like being on LOL_Meme--ten thousand top-level posts, with maybe a few reaction posts to each, but no deeper conversation, which is honestly what I'm here for.
I blame the weird comment format, because you literally can't talk to more than one person or jump into a discussion after the fact without the comments becoming an impossible logic exercise. So it's a two person or bust comment model which is horrible for a sense of community, and again contributes to premature post-death because...like, I can talk to one person for a few comments, but I can keep a discussion with four to ten people going for a week, because the chances of getting someone to reply to something in the thread is so much higher.
I've had success using @ person for logged in discussions, but that doesn't work for anon, which is a pity.
you literally can't talk to more than one person or jump into a discussion after the fact without the comments becoming an impossible logic exercise
This. And this is precisely why I've started quoting more when I reply to someone, because who the fuck knows where in the thread the comment will end up?
(Sorry for commenting named, twas pinged to the thread so I think it is okay with nonnie etiquette)
Ah yeah I'm not sure how easily we can fix that issue with anons. I tend to cheat by just calling people AnonBernard or AnonJoey.
It doesn't ping them, but it gets the point across that I'm referring to them, and if directly replying to them they get the notification anyway.
Regarding threading more generally, we are planning on making threading deeper. I had hoped that it would happen before launch, but it might be slightly after launch.
Nervous about going out of beta. I still don't think there are enough privacy shields in place. But excited, I guess. And discovering new and exciting communities!
I've gotten to being concerned, because (like many others) I can't seem to find or generate any real or lasting activity in comms specific to my interests.
On the other hand, I've been happy in writing comms, say, and it's been nice to poke at and comment in less specific places, like /worldbuilding and the like. And being able to gradually start talking again, even a little bit, is a nice change I hope to keep up.
I want Imzy to work but I think I've hit a burnout phase of trying to make fetch happen, I guess? I just want to relax and be able to be comfortable.
It's also possible that Imzy is going to make it but just won't be the grand fandom saviour-site we were all hoping for -- it's the less specifically "fandom" comms that seem to be doing best, after all.
I think fandom is unlikely to move over wholesale unless there is a specific reason to do so. It'll take Tumblr deleting fandom blogs en masse or something similar to trigger an exodus.
Most fandom people here are just making sure they have a space here in case they need it in future, I think.
I think the big problem at the moment is that we're all trying to start comms for pre-existing fandoms, where the fandom is either already established on a different platform, or old and dead pretty much everywhere. So it's hard to get a critical mass of people who are, A, actually fannishly active about that canon right now rather than just joining comms because "Ooh, a comm for Thing, I used to kind of like Thing", and B, willing to either switch over to Imzy-based discussion completely or else keep up conversations on multiple websites.
I suspect what Imzy needs to jumpstart it is new fandoms - people getting in right at the start with comms for the latest hot new TV shows or whatever that don't yet have a more established space to go to find the rest of the fandom.
I've spent so much time making posts that I don't seem to have the energy to reply to them. I'm kind of disappointed in myself more than anything--when I pitched my tent at Imzy, I took a look around and decided that what the site needed was a nice thick layer of activity and cheermodding, and I don't think I'm wrong about that--it was and is rather big and echo-y, and you need to put stuff in before people can do anything with it. But I decided to devote myself to that instead of writing, and, uh...
Maybe I shouldn't have? Because I love writing, and I only kind of like moderating and creating discussion.
Also I'm complete shit at remembering to do stuff, so It's really freaking hard to remember to post things if I'm not the mod and can't schedule it in. (I am so sorry, /fandom_dealer. This is so not my forte.)
I am hoping so hard for better comment threading. One of the reasons nobody can have more than a back-and-forth two person convo is that there's no way to tell who is talking to who when 3 or more people are involved. It's just a mess of dangling sentences.
They've said private messaging is in the works prior to launch for months now, so I assume it's that, though I hope it's the ability to link posts in sequence, which they've mentioned as a thing they're working on.
ETA
Or comment improvements. For the love of god, please comment improvements.
And/or some way to have a list of watched posts organized by which one has had the most recent comments made to it, but, lol. They haven't even mumbled about that. :P

I'm hoping they add filters by tag or some such thing in the future. It would be nice to be able to "subscribe" to a particular tag only.
It's sloooowly starting to pick up and I'm meeting folks and talking with them. My community is quiet, but I have hopes for more activity eventually and frankly anything beats Tumblr for me -- which is just not for me at all. I'm pretty happy here.

Huh. I see a lot of activity.
I wonder if the fact that they're going to make it "view for a bit and then have to create an account to explore" is going to drive people away. Pinterest drives me nuts for that reason. I don't want a Pinterest account, ya bastiches. Just let me browse!
Okay, so it is the places I hang out, huh. Where is the activity?
I'm on /100words, /hallowimzy, /horror, /introductions, /lets_grab_coffee, /lists, /moonbeam_cafe, /movies, /television. Many, many other comms are totally dead.
/mm_library has a fair amount of activity talking about recs/reviews/tropes/etc from published m/m fiction, if you're into that.
I also really like /cranky_old_fangirls which is basically exactly what it sounds like. I love it. They are my people.
I still don't understand this markup thing they use though, so let's find out if my links look wierd or not lol.
/fanfic_tropes has a nice amount of conversation going.

...oh, yeah, that. Yess, another thing that I can hate on the comment format for! Want to perhaps make a post on /imzy with that observation?
Another thing I'm blaming the lack of interaction on is the lack of a "newest comments" tab on community pages. Posts have too short half-lives.
IDK, think we can make do with just an @greenie? I'm feeling lazy, and it's not like they aren't working on comments.
This. And this is precisely why I've started quoting more when I reply to someone, because who the fuck knows where in the thread the comment will end up?

Not a problem. Any namedrop can be answered by the person being namedropped.
...Which actually isn't in this set of rules. Heh.
thanks id_drip! 💚
It's kinda slow. That said I do enjoy being able to talk to people again instead of just shouting into the void (aka twitter and tumblr).
Same! The void just doesn't stare back. T_T

I wish it were more active. I really try to post and comment and generate content in the communities I belong to, but it seems like I'm the only one.
On an unrelated note, what do you think is the BIG last feature they're working on? I'm betting on the chat.
