Back story:
Coming from military family, the Marine didn't have much of a choice in his career path. As a youth he engaged in rebellious activities including drinking, partying and even joining a greaser gang called the Black Snakes. His father enrolled him into a military boarding school to which the young man replied by attacking his father and running away. He felt that he was never given a choice. Every time he had been asked what he wanted to be when he grew up his father would always answer for him saying "A military man of course" and the boy would always correct him. He ha earned far too many beatings to stay any longer. Several years later he was running with a new gang, working at a bar in central Boston. It was here that he met Nora, a young college student who was looking for a couple shots. They soon became smitten and started dating. The war started and soon, even after all his running he had been drafted into the Marines. His already high intelligence was augmented by his three years of service, he had even been promoted to a Sargent and was a key figure in the war. Upon returning he visited his family in the first time in years. They were so proud of him, but he still felt nothing but disgust. He told them what had happened and why he had left in the first place. For the first time he had made peace with his family. He returned to Boston where he proposed to Nora, and the rest, as they say, is... Well, you know.
