Melee Guard Change Mod?
I was thinking about the melee combat in FO4 and how I feel the guard mechanic could be improved. Now this is personal taste, but I am not a big fan of how blocking works in the game with the timed block system.
I think it would be better if you could hold down block instead. But as a downside, like when you hold your breath while scoping, it uses AP while you're blocking.
Also, when you do block the hit, it reduces your AP, but the better your timing the less AP you lose to incentivize people to use it more as a counter than a shield.
Another feature that could be added to vary up weapon usefulness could be that the swing speed category would effect your block effectiveness. Example: slow swing class weapons bring up the guard slower, but lose the least AP from blocking attacks for tanky characters, while fast/very fast swing class weapons bring up the guard quickly but lose a lot more AP on blocking a hit for rogue-type characters that use it as a skilled parry.
Finally, one last feature to add would be that power attacks break can break guards. That way you can deal with annoying enemies that just block all day. Always thought it was silly that a power attack can be swatted away just as easily as a normal attack. Although of course, this will apply to the player as well with enemies being able to break your guard with power attacks too.
Anyway, those are my ideas on how to improve blocking and make the melee combat more interesting in FO4. Do you guys agree or disagree with this? How difficult do you guys think it would be to implement these ideas as a mod? I would try and make it myself, but I have no idea how to code, and I'm on console so I'd have to wait for the mod maker to come to PS4 first before I could try making this.




I think this would be absolutely brilliant for fallout since playing non- vats melee gets nnoying with the higher levels blocking a lot more.
