A writing community for people wanting to talk about the nuts and bolts of fanwork.
Ultimate Dilemma
Don't you just hate it when you get that "I don't want to write this, I want to read this fic"?

I feel like the one I'm working on fits this category. I haven't seen anyone write these characters in a way I felt was really IC. And I want to read something that I feel is... so... the only option was to try it myself.
I feel like every time I get an idea for a fic, I spend HOURS searching through the various sites to see if someone already wrote. I find that in reality, the biggest motivation to write is when I can find something I want to read.
I know, right?
It's quite literally the worst!
Writing it takes too much time, I want it now!
Story of my life, my friend!
Ugh, yeah. That's how I ended up 50K into a Sherlock college basketball AU. I thought I'd finish it around March Madness but I'm only probably halfway through and very sick of it.
The vast majority of the fics I write start out as, "I've read almost every decent fanfic in this fandom and this story isn't THERE yet."
I don't hate it, but I do sigh heavily because there go the next two months. Three months. Looks at calendar 2016.
Agreed. Though, it's always nice when that urge strikes hard enough that you actually do write it.
That always seems few and far between however OTL
Only always. Rarepair OTP, alas.
Oh, I always get this feeling. I ship mostly rarepairs and I want all the tropes for my favorite pairs! Unfortunately no one ever comes along and fulfils my wishes, so usually I do end up writing the fics I want to read out of sheer desperation.
