I would love to hear your opinions on which books/series have the best film adaptations.

I really liked the Stardust adaptation. It's note totally accurate but it has the same "spirit" ? I also liked Inkheart for the same reasons. I liked the choice made about the atmosphere of the film.

As the P. Jackson's adaptations of Tolkien films, I feel like the films gave me a context to re-read the books even if it does not exactly follow the text.

I really liked the Stardust adaptation.

I'm intrigued by your choice; I read the book and it was ok, not a heavy read. But when I tried to watch the movie - it was so fucking bad, I turned it off. Not even accuracy wise, just the acting and the "feel" of everything...I couldn't make it beyond like 15mins. And I LOVE Charlie Cox and Claire Danes.

I guess I liked the feel of fairy tale of the book and the movie and the humour behind it. But I understand that it can seem grotesque ? absurd ? for others. For instance, I can't read a novel of T. Pratchett. I just don't find it funny or interesant but a lot of people are big fan of the author (I'm just so sad I don't like it, I would have so much book to read then ...)

Agreed - he's so big in the fantasy world, I keep trying to read his books because I feel like I'm missing something big?? And I can't. Same with Neil Gaiman (so sorry).

Ironically one of my favorite books as a teen was Good Omens. XD

I must admit I didn't like Stardust at my first reading.

So may be later will I love T. Pratchett and you'll love N. Gaiman ;-)

Damn that is a REALLY good question!

I think The Fellowship of the Ring was done really well.

Coraline and Howl's Moving Castle are also both great film adaptations, but if we're measuring the "best" by accuracy, they fail pretty badly. I also read the books AFTER I watched the movies, which also colors my opinion in their favor (mostly because I didn't have the opportunity/mindset of "That wasn't in the book" "That didn't happen!" "WTF was that necessary that doesn't even make sense in the book-" You get the idea.)

What I also do a lot is watching the trailer then read the book then watch the movie ^^ (then I have less disapointment with characters)
