A place to talk about anything Fantasy related. Really it can be anything from books, video games, artwork to film!
What book has been on your to read list for ages?
And you just haven't gotten around to reading it yet?
For me it is the Wheel of Time and Malazan series. I started Wheel of Time but it got a little intimidating. Plus my library didn't have the third book. 😅

Kindred by Octavia Butler. I've read and loved a bunch of her books, and it's a highly respected classic, but "African American goes back in time and is forced into slavery" does not sound like a Fun Time. I borrowed a copy from a friend and it keeps staring at me sadly from the shelf.
Then again, right next to it is a copy of the fluffy magical girl manga Magic Knight Rayearth which has been staring at me sadly for nearly as long. Maybe I'm just bad at reading things I've borrowed :)
I second the recommendation for Kindred. It is the best book I read this year.
nods I will read it...one day ;)
The Wheel of Time is on the top of my to read list too! I also need to finish The Foundation series and The Dune series.
Okay my brain has left the building, which one was the Foundation series?
It's a sci-fi series by Isaac Asimov. Here's a link to the Wikipedia page on it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundation_series
Allt he Harry Potter books (I've managed to read the first one but since I'm sturying at UNI I don't get much time to read). Also Wolfbane and Bloodrose (I've read the first book, Nightshade, but never gotten around to reading the other two even though I own both). :)
Pratchett's Discworld. Been on the list for a while.
I could use some suggestions. I've read some WoT but stopped somewhere in the middle of that series. I liked Dragonlance and the David Eddings books when I was younger. I seem to be getting more picky now. Recently I started the Mistborn novels but couldn't finish the 2nd book.
Which was your favorite David Eddings book?
I don't remember if there was one specific book, although if there was one, it was from the Belagariad
Personally the Sorceress of Darshiva was my favourite book of any author at one time. It has slipped a long way down the list now though.
Silk would have to be my favourite character.
My favourite moment was Beldin and Vella flying away.
Loved that Eddings series! Aunt Pol is pure gold in every scene.
Dragonlance has just dropped off my reread list and I am skipping David Eddings this round. Similar stories which remain are Feist's Riftwar series, Dave Duncan's A Man of His Word series and Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series.
Scott Lynch's Gentlemen Bastards series is on my to-read list. Heard it's just as unique as Name Of The Wind.
There's a ton. The Wheel of Time, I've read the first one, but haven't gotten around to reading the rest. The Wizard of Earthsea. Abercrombie's The First Law. Mistborn. The Sandman by Gaiman. And The Robin Hobb books, only read the first one.
I really need to read the last book of The First Law! So much to read and so little time.
Right? And whenever I think now I'm going to read this book, another one pops up and screams: pick me, pick me, I look shiny!
This is just my personal opinion but I would skip the Wheel of Time. I think it is terrible. I think there are lots of problems with the series but the worst is that the women are written really badly. Its insulting. I am male and it makes me ashamed of my sex/gender.
I just finished Tad Williams' trilogy Memory, Sorrow and Thorn and loved it. GRRM was reading this series when he decided to write ASOIAF. Also I loved Otherland by Williams however that is more a mix of scify and fantasy.
I am currently reading Babylon's Ashes by James SA Corey. The Expanse series is frikkin awesome!
I quite liked the first book. I will probably give it a try anyway. I couldn't get into David Eddings though. And I have Williams's Otherland waiting for me. It's been on my shelf for years. It sounds exciting.
David Eddings! I remember that name, from years ago. Now I have to remember what he wrote, and is it worth going to the library for.
The Belgariad series is definitely worth it. Feels like Lord Of The Rings but with more comedic scenes and more mythology, rather than legend.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
I loved to read Tolkein's masterpiece as my well worn editions attest yet since ripping through them just before the movies came out I just haven't been able to motivate myself to pick up Fellowship even though I have read the Silmarillion twice since then.
1Q84, I've started it and put it down so many times...I'd really like to find the motivation to finish it
