A place to talk about anything Fantasy related. Really it can be anything from books, video games, artwork to film!
What is your unknown favorite fantasy series?
I would have to nominate Dave Duncan's "A Man of His Word" series. It is epic fantasy in the vein of Eddings, Feist, Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow and Thorn and Hobb's Assassin. i.e. youth grows to effect nation or world. In my current round or re-readings I chose to follow the adventures of Rap before reading any of the others and thoroughly enjoyed them for at least the fourth and perhaps the fifth time.
P.S. In order not to flaunt Australia's extravagant wealth of "u" in front of our American friends I rationed them when spelling favourite in the title.

Basil Broketail! It's about a Wyvern in the army and his dragonboy, going up against the forces of darkness. There's a lot of focus on military life and battles, but magic comes in and every once in a while the two of them end up on adventures alone. I was pretty young when I read this so I don't know how well it holds up now. But it was a favorite of mine as a kid and I don't think I've ever met anyone else who's read it.
I've read it! I borrowed them all from my dad a dozen times, but now he's put them in storage. Boo. Looks like there are Kindle versions of the first three, I hope the rest come out in that format!
Ooh thanks for telling me. Sometimes I think I should revisit them, but the books are still at my parent's house too. Maybe I'll get the ebooks.
I think this is known in the fantasy world but I haven't met too many people irl that have read the Kushiel series. I absolutely love Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey and its sequals. I enjoyed the other trilogies as well though the first is the best imo.
Erotic fantasy but with some good worldbuilding, not just smut for smuts sake (not that there's anything wrong with that, haha)
I have seen and rejected Kushiel's Dart literally hundreds of times on my library's shelves but as I am on somewhat of a romance kick just having watched Notting Hill (not as good as Four Weddings), Love Actually (not as good as Notting Hill) and Pretty Woman (a classic) your recommendation (and goodreads 4.05 stars) has sold me and a different one of my libraries still has it.
Awesome, I hope I didn't steer you wrong! It's such a fun adventure.
For me it would actually also be Dave Duncan, but the King's Blades series rather than A Man of His Word. Swashbuckling! And spoilery things I can't say but that are the main thing that tipped me over from "like" to "love" for the first three books!
I really like the coldfire trilogy by CS Friedman and the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey
I really must try the Coldfire Trilogy as the first book on goodread's readers also enjoyed is Magic Casement - The first book in A Man of His Word. I loved Lackey's Valdemar books for decades and was angry when she diverted to write other series but unfortunately I have lost my taste for them and she is now in my EX-authors folder for fantasticfiction.co.uk
The first book in the coldfire trilogy is a little slow with some background information but it is a really good series and its pretty creative. You would think medieval times, outer space and magic wouldnt go well together but she make it work really well and even makes you care about the bad guy by the end of the series.
Everworld by K. A. Applegate. I learned so much mythology reading that series.
Monster by A. Lee Martinez is fantasy comedy gold! A man whose power changes every day, and the color of his skin changes along with it. Pretty clever and wild for joke potential.
House of Night, it's absolutely magickal😉
