NSFW Artwork
First of all: My apologies if this question has been asked before!
I just wanted to know Imzy's policy on NSFW art, more specifically fan art involving fictional characters. The NSFW section in the policy says "no pornographic images" and also "use the NSFW setting if you have nudity and graphic violence or other possibly NSFW images". X-rated fan art of fictional characters is not really either, it's not pornography as in "xxx rated pictures of real people posted for show/spam only" but it's not just nudity either, there is more involved, but in the end it's still ART. (Hence "fan ART".)
I'm not a fan artist myself but I received a wonderful piece of commissioned x-rated fan art last night and I hesitate to post it on my personal blog (using the NSFW option, of course, its clear that it falls under that) because I can't really find specific rules about fan art in the policy.
Help?

So I don't totally have the brain power right now to write a big explanation of our porn policy stuff.

Thanks greenie, will try to shoot you a message! I was just thinking a general sentence about this in the official policy could be helpful, I can't be the only one looking for Imzy's rules when it comes to x-rated fanart specifically - and you wouldn't have to type things again and again! lol
I think we can all tell the difference between art that is primarily suggestive/erotic in examples, but this is hard to pin down on paper. Here are the extremes, and why rules wouldn't enforce the content:
I think the intention behind the art-- and the intention behind the community--is a very important factor we have to assess. This would have to fall very strongly on the shoulders of the moderators.
Plus, it's easy enough to go find nsfw art on other forums/boards/sites. I'd say let's leave that there--I'd prefer not changing Imzy's warm and fuzzy vibes.
Edit: Ah, I just looked into the Stony community. On second thought, let the flood gates open sitewide, and the mods do the rest.

No it is. Because it's not purely for pornographic value in the same way that a photo from a porn site exists solely for getting off. The -art in fanart is what makes it different.
I don't know why they chose to be really vague about this after all the talks we had in failfandomanon about it being essential for fanartists to ever come here, but I know @greenie has written posts about it before.

No, definitely not. The idea that nudity is inherently sexual is pretty harmful. Nude photography is not necessarily sexual in nature, but porn always is.
For example, a lot of fanart shows people actually having sex, with detailed representation of genitals doing the do, orgasming, etc. That's porn, even when it's fanart.
You'd be free to campaign for the community owner to remove it, I guess. But based on past conversations, I don't think the site admins would, by default, do so.
The main difference is that the fanart isn't just showing random people having sex, it's showing specific characters doing so. There's a world of context behind it that doesn't exist for a screencap off Pornhub.
I'm not sure what good it does anyone to try to keep those artists away.
So the admins are about preventing bad porn, rather than protecting minors? If porn is allowed when it's got named and familiar TV/movie/whatever characters, I'm not sure what the no porn rule is for/about!
LOL protecting minors? Seriously? This isn't a site for kids. There's a NSFW setting for a reason.
It's so you don't have porn blogs like you do on tumblr, which are just nothing but feeds of dicks banging pussies and cum-covered boobs in 5 second loops.

In my personal opinion, not really in a fundamental sense. But community moderation is always a matter of subtle and potentially arbitrary distinctions.
What they've said is that they are banning material that exists specifically for people to masturbate to, and that they give somewhat more leeway to drawn material. Nude photography is allowed and straight-up hentai is disallowed. (If I'm understanding and recalling all of this right - I'm not a staffer so take what I say with a grain of salt. But I'm pretty sure this is how it works and I do believe it is a fair (although at times disappointing) policy.)
Parents can protect the minors. I am a parent. I protect my minors.
I wish the UK government would realise that it's up to parents to protect their children and not up to ISPs to implement draconian internet controls that kids can usually get around and just lull non attentive parents into a false sense of security.
Does "I protect my minors" mean you put up artificial barriers that they'll just find a way around? If so, you're doing it wrong.
We have spoken about what they can and can't do for safety sake. Cub scouts also does a yearly Cyber safety certification. The plan is that they don't use it without me for now. Whitelist only access to start. Then I'll just teach them how to stay away from trouble in general. legal issues, malware, specifically. Then encourage they talk to me about anything they find that they have questions on.
I think the best way to protect minors is to let them do whatever they want and explain everything to them. That way, you can have them protect themselves and thus no need to worry about it.
That doesn't protect from actual network based threats, from a content standpoint I hear ya but not right for us.
Oh. An up-to-date Linux distro works great for that. (How often does your average linux desktop user run into 0day exploits?)
Erotic art and photography is definitely allowed, and I got feedback that NSFW fan art is also allowed @MrPicard, as someone wanted to post some on /pdt. That fan art was nude, but it wasn't, per se, an explicit sex act. An Imzy employee said it was fine. For all I know, fan art sex acts could also be fine, but I haven't come across that question!
It is a subtle line, but I am fairly sure an NSFW fan art picture will be okay.
We've had lots of NSFW pictures on /pdt and nobody minded. Check out its back history if you want to see! Ie, see some posts that were totally fine and still NSFW.

I'm so glad to hear that NSFW fan art is okay here - I mean there IS a difference between pornographic pictures that are meant for nothing but porn consumption and beautiful but NSFW art. :) It is a subtle line indeed though!
