Dress codes -- I'm ranting

School year is starting soon. And two of my kids are moving into new schools. So time to learn new dress codes. The other is staying at an online school for one more year, so the only dress code is one day a week, and it's basically don't be naked when you show up. I think she can handle that.

Son's dress code for high school (paraphrasing because the PDF on the school page isn't copyable and I don't feel like screenshotting):

No shirts with logos or symbols on them other than the school logo. (Small logos like on a polo shirt are okay.) No sports jerseys outside of the school jerseys. No tank tops, wife beaters or spaghetti straps. Pants and shorts must not show underwear without a belt. Shorts and skirts must be one inch below the the longest fingertip when relaxed at the side. Even with leggings underneath.

Okay, so still sexist, guys and girls both can't wear tanks, but in shopping for my son, that really isn't a thing that he wants anyhow, girls can't wear the majority of shorts that are made for them. Many girls shirts are out. Also, we live in an area where it's going to be over 100 for a lot of the time after school starts in mid-August. The sagging pants is more aimed at the boys, and around here it is a problem.

Daughter's dress code for middle school, and they're calling this a dress code, and not a uniform:

Solid colors only. Navy Blue, White, and Khaki (Grey outerwear is allowed in winter). Jeans are allowed. All shorts and skirts/dresses must come at least one inch below the longest finger when hands held straight at the side with the shoulders relaxed. Leggings are allowed, but only navy, white, and khaki colors, jean leggings/jeggings are not allowed. Leggings can only be worn under shorts and skirts/dresses meeting the fingertip rule. All shirts and tops must have a sleeve of at least three inches past the bend of the shoulder.

Okay, if jeans can be worn, why the hell can't jeggings be worn? My daughter wears jeggings AS jeans since she's so skinny regular jeans fall off her and jeggings look like regular jeans. I also get the feeling that jeans were added in because parents were tired of having to buy navy pants and khakis. My daughter's wardrobe right now consists of mostly dresses and leggings. And they all meet the stupid fingertip rule. Not out of design but because that's just what she likes. Her one jacket is purple. Guess that's out. She has... um, one navy dress. And a navy polo shirt she got from her brother. It might be faded a bit by now. She probably has a few navy leggings. But pretty much I'm going to have to find money for at least a week's worth of clothes for her for school. I don't even think khaki leggings exist. I don't buy white clothes. White clothes do not stay white in this house. But she hates wearing pants and shorts, they're not her thing. At least she's allowed to bring a backpack this year. Those were banned in elementary school.
