As Muslim women fear wearing hijabs, this woman was just elected
This week's election wasn't a total loss for women - America's first Somali-American Muslim woman legislator was elected. Former refugee Ilhan Omar said "it's the beginning of something new" when she accepted the position in Minnesota Nov. 8, proudly wearing a hijab, the Star Tribune reports.

America’s first Somali-American Muslim woman legislator was elected.
Omar describes herself as a feminist, part-time social justice crusader and full-time political junkie. She stands for paid parental leave, ordinances that respect Muslims, securing urban educator funding and banning environmentally-harmful containers and pesticides.

And, inch by agonizing inch, progress is made, each tiny bit hard-earned. Well done Ilhan Omar.
Through all the sadness and horror I've felt since Tuesday, the one bright spot has been that I feel pride for my state. We elected this woman. We re-elected Keith Ellison who was the first Muslim in Congress. It was closer than I'd like, but we ultimately rejected Trump's hate and won't give him our electors. It's been my solace in the last few days.
You rock Minnesota!
