Nostalgia Post #1: First Announcement

Back in 2006, when the Playstation 3 was not yet on the market, Square Enix announced their new instalment of the mainline Final Fantasy series that would be released on Sony's new console. This 13th entry was to be a compilation of games with a similar mythos all under the umbrella of Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy.

During E3 2006, the first cinematic teaser trailer for Final Fantasy Versus XIII was shown to the public. Separate to Final Fantasy XIII, Versus XIII was helmed by Kingdom Hearts and Advent Children Director, Tetsuya Nomura. In contrast to the vibrancy of XIII, Versus XIII took a much darker tone, showing a dark and dreary world, haunting music, a mysterious and brooding protagonist, and brutal action previously unseen in the Final Fantasy series.

Director Nomura took the stage and revealed that the main theme would be "bonding" and the game would be heavily action oriented.

Fans were hyped.
