An unexpected glimpse
Photographic Portraits of Famous Artist's Paint Palettes by Matthias Schaller
Palette of Marc Chagall Since 2007 photographer Matthias Schaller has photographed raw, abstract paintings. The paintings however are not found on canvas, but rather smeared onto the tools used to craft each work of art-the palettes.

I love this project for a lot of reasons...you can see the colors an artist was favoring at the time, but you can also learn a lot about their process by looking at these palettes. And they're certainly works of art in themselves.

Wow! Makes me want to start using a different palette. I usually use a paper palette and then just throw them away when I'm done with a painting.
Me too! This makes me realize that the palettes are a work of art themselves.
a few of my students use panes of glass. I should tell them to take pictures before they clean them.
