I have had a kidney desease all my life and becuase of that I had to take alot of medication, some of them made me fat like prednisolon. I used to swim and do waterpolo to keep my weight normal. After 15 years I got bored of it but I had to keep working out to stay healthy. This is when I started going to the gym.
I started doing cardio 5 days a week 2 hours a day and stopped drinking soda, this made me lose 60 pounds in half a year. After that I had and still have some excess skin. After reading a lot on the Internet I found out the best way to get rid of that excess skin was lifting weights and filling up the space with muscle. This got me into body building.
For 3 years now I go to the gym 6 days a week for 2 hours a day only doing weight lifting exercises. So far I gained 30 pounds of muscle mass and still trying to get more, my final goal is filling up all that excess skin.
I really enjoy working out now, you could say that I am addicted.
Nice to meet all of you and I hope you enjoyed the read.
Hey Ijsdood, I'm MoreVegetables and I'm the community leader over at /weightloss. It sounds like you have had quite the journey to health. Looking forward to building strong fitness communities on Imzy with you.
how are you tracking your muscle mass gains?
Hey Everyone! Coach Mixon here! I'm a former military officer have been in fitness all my life a certified personal trainer and even have my own youtube channel that i love to help people get in shape on.
Ever since I helped my friend get into shape for the first time in their life and saw the complete 180 their life took I wanted to help people get that same chance and feeling and that's just been with me ever since.
I work out everyday and my goal is to help people lose weight any chance I get! Nice to meet everyone!
Hi peeps! I've been training for a long time, since I was a chubby 13 y.o. brat. My focus is natural bodybuilding and strength. I'm big on high intensity training (HIT) in the style of Arthur Jones, lets say. I have a modest home gym which I've been using for many years now, so if anyone wonders about how to train effectively without a gym, feel free to ask. I have a martial arts background as well.
University work prevents me from training as often as I would like - this is what I'm struggling the most with, I guess. Recently, I gained a lot of fat due to inactivity and strength, and managed to cut 20 kgs in 5 months while keeping most of my strength. Now I'm getting back on track. I hope we all have a great time together!
I'm an actress, so my body is one of my most important tools in my job. I work out about twice a week when things are busy, and six days a week when I have time. My current goal is to lower my BMI to 19.7% and run a 10 minute mile!
Best of luck, just keep running and one day you'll find that somehow you enjoyed it!
The first couple of weeks of running = THE WORST. But it gets more enjoyable after that. :)
Hey Everyone. I'm a Registered Dietitian and the community leader over at /weightloss, stop on over for discussion relating more specifically to weight loss.
I've had interest in health and wellness for a long time. I studied nutrition in school and worked in a few different areas of food, nutrition and healthcare.
My goal is a little bit different. I am looking to help build a stronger fitness and wellness community on Imzy.
I work out 3 times a week most weeks, mostly strength and cardio, which I should be doing more of ;).
Nice to meet you all!
i'm tryna get a bit stronger and more flexible. just concerned about my overall health
What got you into Fitness? Weight loss, as well realizing that being in my mid-30s meant I'd be losing muscle mass going forward. It was time to start putting THAT off.
What are your goals? They're fuzzy at the moment. I picture being able to lift significantly more than the average person, and maintaining a good level of cardio for long-term heart health.
How many times a week do you workout? A bit over four hours a week at the gym at the least. I love bringing along ebooks, music, and movies downloaded from my library's streaming service to help the time fly by.
I'm one of those guys who played football in high school and once that was over put on some serious weight. In the past couple years I've gone from 275 to 220 back up to 230. I'm never going back to 275 it felt awful. Just need to hit the gym more consistently.
Currently training for a tough mudder in September to keep me motivated.
I took an interest in fitness because my wife got fit and became a roller derby star, so I wanted to a) keep up; b) not lead a dramatically different lifestyle than my spouse, which could be alienating; and c) keep her eye on my bum.
My chief habit is daily outdoor running, between 3-6 miles depending on how much gumption I've got to give and how much time I'm in a position to take. My current average speed is around 7 mph.
Also dabble in yoga, backcountry hiking, and enjoy a nice swim.
Critically, fitness is my chief tool in my lifelong battle against insomnia. Thus, my workout goal each day is to be able to sleep through the night.
I rowed in college, most notably for UGA. I've yoyoed with my weight all my life and I'm currently trying to shed the pounds and make some lifestyle changes. I've been a bit of a runner and a spin devote in the past.
A few of us at my work are doing the 21 Day Fix right now; it's awesome to have a support network because this program is killer. The strictly regimented nutrition combined with the intense workouts (30 min per day, 7 days per week) are a huge shock to my system. I didn't buy into their pricey Shakeology protein powder; I opted to use something I could get in the grocery store to save my budget. I've just completed day three (18 to go, if I can survive!). I feel like this program is incredibly effective: certainly the most immersive and intensive thing I've undertaken for myself. I just hope that I can maintain the nutrition lessons I'm learning and bleed this into a healthier lifestyle once I've completed the 21 days. Does anyone else have experience with this program or something like it? Any tips, encouragement or post maintenance advice to share?
I've been doing Crossfit since January, and this is my second time in it. I love it. I love all sorts of Powerlifting and Olympic Weightlifting, and the structured/group nature of CF helps me maintain it.
I also love DOMS, which is appropriate for this kind of work.
Hi,
About september time i started to really get into fitness and started doing weightlifting, lost a lot of weight and put on a shit ton of muscle with not much intensive training, heck I deadlifted 22o pounds after 2 months of not that intensive training and I really love it. Now however due to it being final year I quite gym in december and just occassionally work out at home but will hit it hard during the summer in time for college ( BTW i am in britain so its the last two years of high school for you guys). Yeah and that abouts sums it up. Always been into sports and part of many school teams but always been fat and now seeing how ridiculously easy I lost weight and gained muscle, have fell in love with fitness.
I can give you a tip not sure if you want any :D, but anyways you should learn from my mistakes and if you really are serious about losing weight you shouldn't do it to fast. If you lose weight to fast your skin won't be able to adjust and you will be left over with excess skin.
You are still young so your skin is more elastic, but it is something to keep in mind. The only way to lose that skin is fill it up with muscle or remove it with an expensive operation.
I was always kinda active (played sports, had active extracurriculars) but didn't fall in love with it till I started dancing and weight lifting in college.
I don't have too many goals at the moment besides some numbers I'd like to hit for my lifts!
I lift three or four days a week and dance four or five days a week during the semester. I rock climb when I can afford it.
Hey all,
Currently doing Crossfit, although i've just started my own "body building" routine, 3 day split but still with major barbell lifts components. Travelling to Europe for two weeks so i guess this will get interrupted by beer and german sausage (no no that type of sausage)
Hey all.
I just started this year. Yeah, I'm a resolutioner who wanted to look better naked. I've been going 3-5 times a week, with a little cardio here and there. I ran my first 5k last Saturday. 28:18, hoping to get under 27 minutes by the end of the summer.
28:18 is pretty good, if you keep up going atleast 3 times a week you will easily reach under 27 by the end of the summer.
Keep us informed about your progress ;)
everyone just wants to look better naked the difference is everyones tastes
Hey guys - names telot. I got into fitness in order to increase my strength and overall health. I lost 50 lbs through modifying my diet (permanently - no gimmicks here). Now I'm after strength. I'm a member of the home-gym master race. I enjoy compound lifts, and am currently 2-3 months in a modified SS program. Would love to talk fitness and lifting with you all.
I'm back! Chores done. As I was saying earlier, I got a Fitbit Ultra in December, 2011, and that little gadget is the ultimate motivator. It tracks steps, calories burned, etc.; you log in the foods you eat (on the web site), and your activities, and you get a fair idea of calories burned vs. calories eaten. I got it down to a science, and have maintained my goal weight within one pound up or down for a year. I do use my treadmill every day, at least 3 miles (usually more); I do aim for 8 hours sleep every night (and average a wee bit better than that). Fitbit tracks your sleep, too, and tells you how many hours you spent in bed, how many of those hours were actually spent asleep, and how many times you were restless, giving you a fairly accurate track of actual sleep time and percentage of the total time (efficiency) you were asleep. Since I'm retired, I have plenty of time to keep accurate records, recording vital signs twice a day (average BP is 109/56; pulse 57). Taking printouts to doctor appointments really helps the doctor to see a more accurate picture of your condition than what he gets in his exam room. It is also a good way to see when something starts to go wrong before it becomes an emergency. One other thing about real fitness: diet. I eat ONLY organic foods. I eat no grains (I'm gluten-free), and no soda, not even organic soda. I do all my own cooking and am addicted to chicken wings. The important thing to take away from all this is that everything you eat should be organic. Period. It makes a HUGE difference, in total nutrient value and how full you feel after eating. I can eat only 1000 calories in a day and not feel hungry. Or, I can eat 1800 calories in a day, not feel hungry, and not gain weight, either. Organic makes the difference, and I'm 107 pounds lighter to prove it! I hope this proves useful to someone else... we weren't all stamped out by cookie-cutters, and each of us is different, genetically, but some basics really do apply to most everyone. Good luck, all, with your fitness programs, and keep on stepping!
Hi,
41 years old and I've been active my whole life from fencing to wrestling to Wing Chun. Currently, I'm obsessed with powerlifting. My current goal is to bring my conventional deadlift from 520 to 600lbs by end of next year.
Cheers!
Hey all, i got into fitness because i turned 30, got married and looked at my self in the mirror. Id gotten up to 310 lbs. I've always been a big but relatively athletic guy. Its served me well for years as a bouncer, but now its time to slim down and get in shape, seeing as id rather not die of a heart attack before im 40.
Anyway id say my goals are twofold. Firstly id like to get down to a mich more healthy weight. Probably somewhere between 200 and 220. Secondly i lovrle lifting heavy weights so id like to see how far i can get with that.
Currently i lift 3 times a week and walk for 35 minutes twice daily. Ive been lifting for about 7 months. Numbera are bench: 165, deadlift: 195, squat: 305 and press: 135
Hi! I'm deb.
I've weight trained off and on my whole adult life. HATE endurance work. Got my personal trainer cert 7 years ago but it's lapsed.
Started powerlifting after my hip replacement and love it!
My goals: bench 135#. Squat 165. Deadlift 215. Before I turn 70.
I lift 3-4 times a week. Walk the dogs every day. Try to do some yoga every day.
Oh yeah: current numbers: bench 110 but Ive got a hinky shoulder. Squat 125. Deadlift 145.
250+lbs 5' 9" - 5' 10" looking to drop 50 pounds AND get my 1/2/3/4! I lift 3 times a week, running Greyskull LP right now and I jog 4 times a week
What got me in: I was gaining weight, losing energy faster. I need to keep up with my toddlers, and I want to be there for them as they grow.
Goals: lose weight (and associated muffin top random jiggly bits everywhere), gain energy and endurance, and eventually tone up. Hit a 10 minute mile on running (currently hitting .7ish miles in 10 minutes).
Schedule: For the past 3 months, I work out 3 times a week before work (which means waking up at like 5am) so I can get out before the kiddos wake up. I usually target a different area (upper body, lower body, and core) each day, with some running or elliptical cardio each day as well.
Main reason I want to join the community is for pointers and help staying motivated. I don't really see much progress since I have issues that prevent easy weight loss (and yes, calories in < calories out). I also seem to have issues targeting certain muscle groups (can't hit the pecs well at all, I seem to carry all the stress from benching/arm exercises on my shoulders, not pecs). Any advice is definitely welcome.
Currently resting after doing RAGBRAI and then doing a lot of walking around Gencon the following week; will get back into my gym schedule before or by Labor Day. Not really focusing on weight loss so much as staying active during the non-outdoors-cycling months.
Hi! I got into fitness through my ex boyfriend (now my best training partner ever) few years ago. My goals are mainly to grow muscle right now, maybe compete one day but that we shall see then when I make that decision. I just got into yoga and pilates recently and I've been doing those when I can't go to the gym lift some heavy weights. I can't stand what's considered normal cardio, so doing hiit, plyo and such almost every day is much better for me than running 10 km. So... Yeah. Exited to be with you! :)
What got you into Fitness?
What are your goals?
How many times a week do you workout?
So happy this community exists. Would love to get some inspiration and motivation that keeps me working out. I swim and do athletics. Cheers
My ex cheated on me so I decided to get fit to get back out there and also to show her what she's missing out on. That was 5 years ago and now i'm still doing it, just now for myself, and I have this lovely girlfriend who loves to splurge on pizza and junk as much as I do :)
Hello Everyone! I've been a 'into fitness' my whole life. I was a D1 pole vaulter in college. I've kept at it (around 30 now) because of old injuries (had tommy johns surgery) lifting regularly keeps everything working.
I'm currently doing this program: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/training-at-home-power-rack-workout-program.html although I've changed some rep-ranges to fit what I like.
On my off days I do yoga, so I workout 5-7 days a week.
Also a vegetarian.
Hi all.
I've had metabolic issues for about 25 years now. Basically I had Metabolic Syndrome before it had a name. I also have a chemical imbalance in my brain. Both problems are helped and controlled by exercise. So at nearly 50. to keep my self healthy ...
I run. Currently doing a couch to 5K, again, after a knee problem. I crossfit. I love this stuff and wish it had been around in the 1980s. I remodel houses - lots of sweating in that. Typically I do something every day.
But you can count on me to run 3 times a week.
Right now my goal is to get my first 5K under my belt, and then to train for a 10K In crossfit I've got my double unders and now I'm chasing that pullup.
Hi... I've been "Bitemore" since my first computer in 1998, so most people know me (online) by that name. Anyway, I've been using Fitbit since December, 2011, and lost 107 pounds with it. I use my treadmill for an hour every day, generally going 3.30 miles; I'm gonna be 73 in December, so I think I'm doing rather well for a fossil! I got into fitness when I had open-heart surgery in 2010. You might say I "got religion" with that, because I immediately decided to get fit, and fast, because the alternative didn't look like it would be much fun. Oooops... I gotta go; will be back very soon (have urgent chores to do)! This site looks like it may be a LOT of fun!
What got you into Fitness? Building muscles and giving myself a healthier long life. (hopefully)
What are your goals? I am pretty shallow with my goals. So truthfully what I really want is a great six-pack. That goal actually thrive me to go to the gym even when my motivation is low.
How many times a week do you workout? Between three and five times. When I am lucky and have time off, like this week I try to do seven, but that is rare. I do cardio (Les Milles Sprint) and weight-lifting. I'd like to try crossfit, but need to build more core strength first.
