China is making huge investments to become a soccer superpower
China has already come a long way in its plan to become a world soccer superpower by 2050 , according to a new report from Nielsen. Soaring interest? Check. Big investments? Check. A winning national team? Give them time. According to Nielsen, 31% of urban Chinese residents say they're interested in soccer, and that number is growing steadily.

This is good news, but the point about investments in football is that they can easily go wrong. China should study success stories - like Belgium - to see how they can build a great team from the ground up. Basically, they need to choose what kind of football they want to play, and go forward from there. What's really going to be important is the focus on youth teams, as significant development happens from age 10 to 15, before the huge step a player has to make from 16 to 19. I would also say that Chinese youth teams need to focus on technique, because I don't see it feasible for them to dominate team playing physical football.
