I am absolutely in love with all of FM's melee build. And I am trying to make my own melee build but I'm having trouble staying alive long enough to do anything. I swear they make it look so easy. I must just be bad lol.

Your special matters a lot, a non stealth build that doesn't use power armor should have high endurance, the difficulty also is important. If its too hard in the beginning you should put it on easy or normal. Other than that I'd suggest using cover on your approach and if it fits your role-playing use buffout and psycho. A few perk suggestions would be big leagues, blacksmith, life giver, and adamantium skeleton. Solar powered if you can get it would also be helpful.
Yeah I changed my specials around and it is running much smoother. I am doing a shotgun and melee combo. I'm going with a deranged father gone Grim reaper kind of Role play. It is super fun just being a dick and killing everything in the way.
Ah yes, the two deadliest weapon types in combination should lead to a violent playthrough.
Yeah Ive been using the melee more than the shotgun but it comes in handy in some fights.
Make sure you have high endurance and strength. Also, get good damage resistance, and invest in blitz. This made my melee character able to soak up bullets.
Oh you should try to make a commando build
The best advise I could give would be to strip mine Santuray and Red Rocket at lvl 1. What you do is scrap everything in both areas then find a wall in Santuary and build 1000's of paintings (ones that take 4 wood) and scrap them. I usually build enough to get a level then scrap them all, rinse and repeat. Once you run out of wood start on signs that take 3 steel, rinse and repeat. Usually takes me under an hour now to do an you leave Santuary at level 12 but only if you started with 5 points in Luck so you can get Idiot Savant at lvl 2, otherwise you get to about Level 10-11 by the end of it without Idiot Savant.
For the melee build you leave sanctuary with Blitz, Iron Fists or Big Leagues, Sneak I & II, a few points to throw in to Endurance and Strenth, Ninja, Rooted and Action Boy/Girl.
I don't see this as 'cheating', Santuary is there for the taking IMHO but some say it's not how it was meant to be played. Hope it helps.
Yeah It will help for my second build. That is a really nice tips thanks.
I recommend dropping the actual build till about level 20. That's when you can actually start doing what you came to do. My shotgun build didn't actually start till I was level 13 due to ammo, and caps. The trick with a melee build on survival is to wait to play on survival if your inexperienced. It's not benificial to play on such low levels, it's just frustrating.
Well, they're lvl 50 when they post vids, and have some of the best armor/weapons in-game.
Are you playing on survival? If so, I found that rushing into fights unprepared is almost always deadly. Always be prepared.
Other then that, are you taking blacksmith/armorer perks? Early game, they're very essential to dealing with heavy damage dealers.
I am referring to levels 1 - 10 is where I'm having trouble. I am new to fallout in general. This is my first one. But yes I have it set up to where I can get armorer and blacksmiths
Most times with melee builds, you forget to utilise cover and run swinging that bat and stabbing your blade. Planning your attack and stealth is advantageous when bullets are flying your way. ^.^
