Stripes!

First vertical stripes on my loom. This is tedious. I wish my yarn was heavier weight. Stripes are now reserved for my most beloved people. (Trying a photo from mobile again. Fingers crossed.)

This is so cool! What is it and what do I google to give it a go?
(Is the round orange thing your loom?)
The orange thing is indeed my loom. Knifty knitter is one of the big names for loom knitting and a good place to start googling. There are tons of loom knitting videos on YouTube. I will add some links when I'm not on my phone.
Links!
This one is about stitches and bind offs and cast ons and lots of good info. It's all written out, which works for me because that's how I learn. http://myteacup.com/loom_knitting/helpful_hints.htm
And this is good for figuring out sizes, and they also have links to patterns and other things. http://www.loomahat.com/loom-size/
Thank you so much! These look like really good resources :)
~bustles away to research~
Nice! I didn't even know you could do that on a loom.
I've never tried loom knitting. How do you like it?
I think I sorta fundamentally doesn't understand the concept of loom knitting, but I haven't really looked into it that much.
I like it a lot. I'm pretty easily distracted and have trouble reading patterns. I tried crochet for years and just could not get the hang of it. Dropped stitches and added stitches galore. But with the loom it's really easy to see if I've missed a stitch, and it's pretty hard to add one. I'm just starting to try more intermediate stuff. I was super stoked when I figured out how to cable. Mostly I make hats and scarves. I'm still working myself up to the idea of socks. I really want one of those huge afghan looms, but I haven't been able to justify the cost yet.
It's incredibly easy, especially compared to crochet or knitting. You can usually buy a pack of looms at a craft store for twenty bucks or so, and the instructions are included.
That having been said, I don't know what dark sorcery made those stripes.
Ee! I don't think I've ever done anything referred to as dark sorcery before! Thank you! I did e-wrap with both colors as one (they're a 4, which is sort of lightweight on its on I feel. I like chunky hats) until I was happy with how much there was to fold over into a brim. Then I fucked it all up experimenting with it. Then I watched a youtube video on vertical stripes, but they were doing e-wrap, which I didn't like the look of, so I decided alternating purl and knit. I decided to make it easy to keep track of what I was supposed to be doing I would purl gold and knit burgundy. (Still fucked it up and have purled many burgundy stitches, but have gotten good at spotting them before it's too late and fixing them.) Happily this loom is an even number of pegs, so I did 2 and 2.
I started with the gold, and set the burgundy aside. So I purled 2 pegs, and then ran the working (gold) yarn behind the next 2 pegs, and then purled 2, and kept this up until I got all the way around.
I set aside the gold yarn, and ran the burgundy (now the "working" yarn) behind those first 2 purled pegs, and knit on the 2 that I had skipped, all the way until I finished the round. Then the gold becomes the working yarn again.
I'm probably going to go until I hit 7 inches, including the brim. At which point I think I will ewrap a row with both colors, just to bring them back together and keep it from getting weird right at the end, so I don't have to curse and rip it all back to the beginning, and use the gather method to finish it up.
Here's a picture of the inside, if that helps any:
The blackest of sorcery. (It's super cool--I may have to try it! But with Youtube video references. Many of them.)
