Digital vs Disc?
So, I've quit buying physical media, when it comes to movies, music, tv. Which is really difficult sometimes when it comes to my collector mentality. I enjoy having complete sets of things (on DVD/BluRay for example). But a few years ago, I just made the switch to buying all my new movies through iTunes.
Is there anyone else who will exclusively be picking up The Force Awakens through digital download only? It will be strange not having the disc for this one to go along with the others...

I prefer physical. I've collected physical for as long as I can remember. I will continue resisting digital.
I've had the same struggle. I'm fairly certain I'm going to buy the digital copies initially, then the box sets for each trilogy.
Lets be honest, though. It's Star Wars. I'm going to end up owning multiple copies on multiple mediums no matter how hard I try.
I will probably do a rental of the digital so I can watch the movie on my b-day and then buy the combo pack a few days later.
Fully digital here as well. The only non-digital media items I buy now are art books. Freeing up all that storage space plus the ability to access my media anytime (vs needing to find the physical disk) has been amazing.
I have been converting all my discs to files & buy only digital as well. I was wondering if we knew that TFA would have the special features on digital copies? I know many of the Disney movies we have purchased for my children come with special features too.
I don't know? I'll probably end up with a blu ray disc as I haven't yet really made the jump to digital. I'm always concerned about not really owning the digital content unless I can store it somewhere other than where I purchase it from easily.
I usually buy everything on digital now. Although I will be getting the Blu-Ray of TFA. Mostly I switched to digital for space reasons and I'm lazy and don't have to leave my house to buy stuff.
Usually if I buy the physical format, it's because it isn't available digitally, or it's among my favorites of things and there is something different about having a physical copy.
I for one don't mind the combo packs. DVD goes to the kids' room so it doesn't matter when they scratch the disc. Blu-ray goes where they can't get to it. Digital gets downloaded to our phones and tablets. One purchase covers all my media.
I've never considered going all digital for movies I love. I need the bonus features a disc offers.
I prefer physical too. It's just an easier way for me to watch stuff. If you have the rest physical then i have respect for you if you can't complete the set. That would drive me crazy
The collector in me is purchasing the Steel book featuring Kylo Ren from Best Buy, the BB8 from Walmart, and I've already ordered the standard packaging from the Disney Store to get the lithograph set. Please help...
I'm also starting to transition to digital for no other reason than I don't have room for all these movies.
I will be getting the blu ray combo pack though for TFA. I want to have discs for the Star Wars movies, plus I can give the dvd to my mom.
I don't really understand why they insist on doing the combo packs to make you get a blu ray, a dvd, and a digital copy. It makes no sense to me, but its not really that big a deal.
I do not like their policy about the different versions exclusive to stores though. This is ridiculous. I am boycotting all exclusive editions on principle. If we support this nonsense, it will only get worse.
For me it came down to a combo of space, and the convenience of having all my dvd's converted to digital and accessible through the AppleTV.
Yeah, the combo packs never made much sense to me either. Like you, I just ended up giving the DVD copies away to people.
I've never bought digital. I've thought about doing it for TFA. My only concern is special features.
