AgriProtein replaces fishmeal with fly meal

Sustainable agricultural protein produced by nutrient recycling via our process of bioconversion | AgriProtein Technologies

AgriProtein has been developing its insect based protein feed, extruded oil, and fertilisers since 2009. Following five years of parallel academic and manufacturing research, AgriProtein has raised $11 million from strategic partners to commercialise and globalise its IP. The company broke ground on its first industrial scale factory 'F1' in 2014.

The company web page linked here, AgriProtein, has developed large-scale techniques for using flies as a means of converting organic waste into animal fodder (not aimed at human nutrition).

AgriProtein rears fly larvae at an industrial scale on organic waste that would otherwise go to landfill and harvests the larvae to make natural, high-protein feed products as a sustainable alternative to fishmeal and soybean meal.

The company's latest news is a plan to build a total of 200 fly-meal factories world-wide in the next ten years.

Not perfectly aligned with this community's interests, but the idea of natural conversion of waste material into fodder, replacing fish and soya, is an attractive one.
