Introduction

Hi guys, I'm the founder of the new company, Genesis Food Solutions (http://www.genesisfoodsolutions.com/). As many of you are based in the US where we don't currently ship, I'll say before launching into things that if any of you have any questions about the industry, or want some help with DIY recipes, let me know and I'd be happy to help.

Anyway, I set up Genesis Food Solutions (science-y pun intended) because there was a fair amount of demand for a product similar to Ketochow here in the EU. I noticed no one had fulfilled this niche, so people were forced to either forget about a ketogenic option, make their own, or pay $70+ per month for shipping alone. I started working on some recipes in December, and after a lot of tinkering and changes, I felt that they had reached a good quality level, and went about finding some help with further development. We named the product Ketogenesis, after the metabolic process that brings about a state of ketosis in people. We sent some samples out to our mailing list in July and August. Since then, we went live with version 0.9 (more on versions a little later) at the end of September, with first orders shipping on the 30th of September.

So what makes Ketogenesis different from other products, apart from being ketogenic? There are three main things that I consider our best points.

Flavour selection:

We have an extremely large flavour selection. We classify flavours into three types: standard, premium and vegan. The only difference between these three types is the protein source in each.

Standard flavours use a mixture of different proteins: 32% soy isolate, 30% whey concentrate, 28% calcium caseinate and 10% whey isolate. Standard Ketogenesis is available in four flavours: cookies & cream, lemon yoghurt, strawberry and toffee.

Premium flavours use pure whey concentrate. Premium Ketogenesis is available in nine flavours: banoffee, blueberry, caramel macchiato, cherry bakewell, chocolate brownie, honeycomb malt chocolate, unflavoured, Vanilla crème and wild raspberry.

Vegan flavours use pure soy isolate. Vegan Ketogenesis is available in seven flavours: caramel macchiato, chocolate mint brownie, chocolate peanut cookie, chocolate silk, millionaire's shortbread, unflavoured and vanilla crème.

In addition to these flavours, we have a bunch more available to us. In total, we have another 8 standard flavours, 3 vegan flavours and over 80 premium flavours we can add to our selection! We intend to periodically run polls on our forum in which people can vote for which of the flavours on this list they'd like to see added. If you would like to see the flavours available (we have had to cut some from the premium list as there are simply too many!), the link to the board containing the polls for future flavours is here: http://genesisfoodsolutions.proboards.com/board/21/flavour-polls

We are also working on developing savoury options and hypoallergenic options, though we don't anticipate release of these for a few months at least.

Optimal micronutrient mix:

Most soylent companies use their country's RDAs as guidelines, and aim to hit exactly 100% of these. RDAs are enough to meet the nutrient needs of 97.5% of the population, but not enough to promote optimal health. For example, the Daily Values used on labels like Soylent's give a requirement of 60mg of vitamin C per day, as this is the amount required to prevent scurvy. The FDA recently increased the RDI to 90mg per day to reflect benefits from vitamin C's antioxidant properties (though notably companies don't have to update their labels until July 2018, so Soylent and other products don't actually hit 100% of the new FDA recommendations on a few nutrients). However benefits from vitamin C are seen far above this level, far into the hundreds of milligrams.

We have used the highest RDA from any board worldwide as our minimum requirements for every micronutrient, and gone far above this in some cases where benefits are seen from doing so (whilst always staying significantly below the Upper Tolerable Limits). We also attempt to use far more bioavailable forms of nutrients than are found in most soylent products, in order to increase absorption.

NB: We are waiting on the arrival of part of our mix from the US, and anticipate its arrival in November. Before then, we will be using crushed vitamin powder, and as such will have lower values on some nutrients.

For a full breakdown of what is included in our micronutrient mix, please see this page of our website: http://www.genesisfoodsolutions.com/vitamin-mix-ingredients

Phytonutrient mix:

So far, very few soylent products have included any phytonutrients, and those that do do not include many, or even particularly adequate doses of any of the ones they do include. We are in the process of developing a phytonutrient mix that will include at least ten of the most researched phytonutrients, in doses that are recommended by the most up-to-date scientific literature.

Phytonutrient research is very new, which is one of the reasons some companies choose not to include them. As a result of this, when we do launch the mix, we will be having it as an optional extra to with any purchase, because we don't feel those who are unconvinced by the benefits should have to pay extra for it.

The phytonutrient mix still has to undergo some testing to see if the taste is tolerable, but if it is not we will find other sources of the phytonutrients that are more palatable. I personally believe that phytonutrients can be extremely beneficial for health, but I encourage people to do their own research to form their own opinion instead of taking my word for it.

Anyway, if you'd like to see our intended composition of the phytonutrient mix, it is listed here: http://www.genesisfoodsolutions.com/phytonutrient-mix

Future releases:

Aside from the savoury flavours, hypoallergenic flavours and phytonutrient mix, we are also in the process of developing a non-ketogenic product, Glycogenesis, which we aim to release by Christmas. It won't contain any maltodextrin, and will be quite high in protein (130g + per day). It will be available in most, if not all, the same flavours as Ketogenesis, and will more than likely be sold in 1-day packs. If you have any questions about this, let me know.

Final words:

So this post has gone on long enough now. If anyone has any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
