In this blog post from the Appalachian Trail, through-hiker Mike Medeiros praises powdered Soylent as a trail food.
He notes it is unmatched for calories/ounce -- a key figure for long-distance hikers -- and less costly than common alternatives. There are a couple of drawbacks, though; read the post for details.
