'Game of Thrones': HBO announces summer return, 7 episodes
Summer is coming. HBO is officially confirming some major changes for Game of Thrones. Season 7 of the fantasy sensation will not return until summer 2017 - pushing back from the show's usual strategy of premiering each edition of the series in the spring (typically April).

Only 7 episodes?! Oh the humanity!!
It's probably been cut down to 7 episodes due to the lack of GRRM material to draw on, as well as budget concerns because I remember the producers had to beg for more to film the Battle of the Bastards plus the extra Winds of Winter runtime.
Yeah, I can see how this lets them consolidate budgets.
So basically season 7 is defeat Cersei and season 8 is defeat the White Walkers?
I hate to see this show winding down.
I think they will happen concurrently but it's heavily implied there would mainly be a focus on what's beyond the Wall due to the change in shooting schedule and winter has arrived. My prediction is that Dany vs Cersei and the Winterfell storylines will start out separately and converge around midseason, with Jon asking for help from the southern kingdoms to cut their shit out and face the bigger enemy. I don't think either Cersei or the WWs will go down in season 7.
Come to think of it, since we're headed for more violent times so maybe 3 episodes were cut for even more gratuitous battle scenes....
That makes a lot of sense to me.
We still have to finish out the Euron subplot too. A sea battle?
And I'm still not sure where they're going with Bran, Arya, and Brienne. Winterfell reunion?
They brought back The Hound for a reason too I'm guessing. Clegane Bowl?
You're right, there could be several battles.
Are we done with Essos? Where is Jorah?
Luckily, the writers had Cersei help them out with talent costs...
Haha, I wonder if they'll be slaughtering characters throughout season 7 to reduce budget.
