The TV show Game of Thrones and the book series A Song of Ice and Fire
What awaits Ned?
Curious what you all think is waiting for Ned at the top of the Tower of Joy? The book memories of Ned are almost non-existant, except the promise, Lyanna, blood, and the blue winter roses. From the fight outside the tower, Ser Gerold Hightower was missing. Will he be upstairs with Lyanna?
Also will there be another woman there helping Lyanna? It's speculated that she gave birth, explaining the bed of blood Ned finds her in, who do you think that is? Popular choices from the books are Wylla (Jon's nurse), Ashara Dayne, Gerold Dayne, or someone else entirely?
And finally, what do you think the promise Ned made to Lyanna was exactly?

We heard a woman scream as Ned approaches the Tower.
It makes sense to me that that's Lyanna giving birth, presumably to Jon Snow, and she makes Ned promise not to tell anyone who Jon's real father and mother are, or else a jealous Robert Baratheon will kill him.
It makes sense to me that Lyanna would ask Ned to promise to tell people Jon is his child.
It makes sense that Wylla is there and can keep the secret.
The writers of Game of Thrones are usually more efficient than GRRM so I could see them not having a lot of other characters in the scene.
I saw an interesting theory on Reddit that a Star Wars twist would be Lyanna giving birth to twins -- Jon and Meera -- though there were a lot of logic problems with that theory.
I'm personally hoping for Ashara Dayne popping up in the tower. The Daynes are my favorite house/mystery box in the story.
It'd be odd for them to cut Gerold Hightower or Oswell Whent entirely. Hoping the other one is up in the tower somehow.
Come to think of it we've only had 3 episodes.
If we get a flashback every episode this season then there's plenty of room for all of them and still not have the Lyanna reveal until episode 9 or 10.
Even with more Tower of Joy scenes.
When the three eyed raven says Bran must learn Everything, that's a lot of ground to cover!
I like that you call the Daynes a mystery box. What's their sigil?
It seems like Bran will be constantly trying to go back, and may only get small bits until the dramatic conclusion. For instance, I bet we're going to see the Knight of the Laughing tree story. And hopefully a Rhaegar flashback. They can stretch out the R+L=J reveal until the finale if they want.
It's a sword and falling star on a purple field. They're a perfect mystery box, like JJ Abrams likes to say about his movies. George has given us point of views and characters surrounding Arthur, Ashara, and the main Dayne family but never them directly. They're like Rhaegar, he's giving us lots of clues without showing what's inside. That's the Daynes for me. What the hell is Dawn? Why were they so involved with Rhaegar and Lyanna? Why do they look like Valyrians even though they have no ties to Valyria or their colonies? You can keep turning the house around and around like a rubix cube, trying to find the pieces of information that makes it all lock into place.
I love that JJ Abrams talk on the mystery box! Thanks for that happy reminder.
Sword and falling star on a purple field could mean ANYTHING. Sheesh!
Man you ask a lot of good questions. For all the GRRM has written there are still thousands of unanswered questions.
Since Bran needs to know everything we're going to get at least one visit to the White Walkers and/or Night's King too.
I could see Bran's flashbacks lasting into next season. Why rush through what is an excellent storytelling device? It's not like he's going to be reunited with Jon Snow anytime soon.
They still need to explain how Wylis became Hodor too. That alone could take a few flashbacks if they want.
