Can Romance Be Portrayed Well In Games?

This feature was originally published June 3, 2016. Ah, romance. We all know love and heartbreak to some degree, so we shouldn't be surprised when video games attempt to represent more complex relationships. Some video game love affairs stand out because they're natural and believable, such as Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher.

    I think it can.

Firewatch has a nice romance between the protagonist and a "voice" on the walkie-talkie. I think Campo Santo did an awesome job with that game.

For whichever criteria you have for "Romance portrayed well in a video game", you'll eventually get a game which meets that criteria. Yes, Romance is presently or will some day be done well.

Look at Fire Emblem. I'm sure it can be.

If you think romance can't be portrayed well in games, you've obviously never seen Overwatch porn. I've never actually watched Overwatch porn though. I'm not weird.

The singular act of fucking - and especially porn - is not the same thing as romance.

        Fair point
