Civilization VI Makes America Great Again

As America faces an uncertain future, there's comfort to be found in looking to the past with Civ VI's choice for the game's US leader: Teddy Roosevelt. America has long been a Civ mainstay, but its leaders have always been drawn from a small pool: Lincoln and Washington for the most part, with one-off appearances by FDR, his wife Eleanor and Kennedy.

I might actually play them in VI, assuming culture is as powerful as it is in BNW - America in BNW favored wide domination play, which wasn't particularly optimal due to game mechanics. Not bottom tier but underwhelming.

Interesting that in several places I have heard the rough riders mentioned as Teddy's unique unit not America's unique unit. This seems to be imply that maybe we are getting more then one leaders per empire again.

After the disappointment that was Beyond Earth, I am holding off on this one, until I hear some reviews, or get to try it myself on a free weekend on Steam. That said, it sounds like they are expanding the leaders slowly, and trying to avoid dividing their fan base by picking leaders who, right now at least, are seen as politically divisive. It will be interesting to see who they pick as the leaders for France, Germany, or Russia. That said, I do miss the way that you could play in Civ IV, by picking your leader: added a lot of variation to the game play.

Wow I somehow didn't realize that civ5 was from 2010.
