First Look at Nintendo Switch
Introducing Nintendo Switch! In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

That looks pretty awesome! If it's a successor to the Wii U, then I hope that it is backward compatible since I missed a lot of games from Nintendo.
It won't be. The console is cartridge based and knowing Nintendo, none of the games you've purchased from them digitally will carry over.
That's a bummer :(
Got to admit, when Nintendo announced they were working on a new console I didn't expect them to come out with something like this.
Combining home and mobile gaming is a clever move on their part. Makes me wonder if due to this they are going to be making any seperate handholds or focus all attention towards the Switch.
As already mentioned I feel power usage will be a deciding factor if this will be a good seller. Also if third party accessory can be used or if you'd be stuck in the Nintendo ecosystem
If it costs as much to replace one of those little side control parts as it does to replace a Wacom tablet pen...
Definitely something I'd be hesitant to give to all but the most responsible kids, unfortunately.
Thoughts on how the little carts that you see get pushed into the tablet will work vs full games on the home version? No way the little cartridges can hold the data of a big AAA game like Skyrim (which I believe was shown).
I own a 256GB microSD card.
Personally I am super pumped on this. I'll be getting one. Especially if it helps bridge the gap with Pokemon and some awesome RPG titles that we're used to seeing only on hand held devices.
If this gets a good Monster Hunter game, it may become my first ever console because I really want to try that series, but going for a 3DS was out of the question since there's no way I'm going to hunch over a tiny handheld screen, especially for a game about dramatic battles with huge spectacular beasties.
I don't think I've ever not wanted a piece of Nintendo hardware so bad since the 2DS.
All I can see in my mind is parts getting lost/discharging at different rates.
