I'm about to build my first PC. What games do you recommend that are on sale?

I already have some (modern Fallouts, Mass Effect 1/2, Skyrim, Mirror's Edge, Risk of Rain, FTL, HL1-HL2:E2, pretty much the whole Sonic series from that Humble Bundle, the Portal games, Bastion, Terraria, Limbo, Dark Souls, and VVVVV, among some other, smaller gifts I've gotten), but I want to really know the what the PC has to offer.

Seconding the new Doom. It's absolutely fantastic.

You could always be like me, where I built a $1500 PC, and then spent all my time playing non-graphically-demanding games like Binding of Isaac Rebirth, Darkest Dungeon, Enter the Gungeon, Stardew Valley, FTL, and other similar (fantastic) indie games.

If you want some new experiences, I'd recommend cRPG games like Pillars of Eternity and Baldur's Gate, and strategy games like Civ 4/5 and the Total War games.

Get Steam - They have regular sales which will let you get a lot of fun (but slightly older) games for 50%+ off.

I already have steam from my old laptop. I already indulged in my first round of spending, as you can see from that list.

    ARK: Survival Evolved.

Even though it is getting quite old you should not miss out on Oblivion and Morrowind from The Elder Scrolls series (Since you already have Skyrim) for strategy you can't go wrong with the Total war series (excluding Atilla) and Civilization 4&5.

Morrowind is still really great, especially with the mod community still being active.

With Oblivion and Morrowind, which is the better of the two?

What type of games are you into? I'm not seeing racing games (need for speed, Flatout 1+ 2, Carmageddon) or isometric RPG (Diablo 1-3, etc)

    • FairyLipJun 27, 2016 at 12:41 PM

Ah, I'm into action-adventure, RPGs, platformers, and turn-based strategy RPGS, with a mild interest in pure action and fighting games.

  • adiabatJun 27, 2016 at 3:14 PM

Check out Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite (Bioshock 2 is kinda weak imo)

Borderlands 1/2/pre-sequel are really fun and usually go on sale for almost nothing

I had a lot of fun with Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. As you play the game, the orc army is always changing as you kill captains and new ones take their place, or they kill you or each other and get promoted to higher ranks.

If you're interested in story-focused adventure games, Life is Strange is on sale for 10 bucks right now and it's really great.

Witcher 3 for sure :) and the entire witcher series is good too.
