StarMade

StarMade

StarMade is a voxel-based space sandbox game. It features a seamless, procedurally generated universe, complex ship building, and exploration on an infinite scale

This is one of my favorite games. It's a fun Minecraft-esque space themed survival-sandbox type of deal. The real jewel of this game is building your ship and engaging in combat with it, which is absolute loads of fun. Check it out, it's free. (Well, except on Steam... free on their site though)

That looks like a really cool alternative to Minecraft. Actually, it looks better than Minecraft. (But, admittedly, that isn't hard in my opinion.)

Yeah, there are a lot of things it has over Minecraft, honestly. I feel like if the planets were a bit more fleshed out in StarMade, exploration would be even more satisfying than in MC.

Planets are kind of dull, are they?

Well, I'd put it like this. They're pretty damn cool, but the game gives you almost no reason to leave your ship and actually explore them. I don't think this is much of an issue, but it's something I'd like to see. (And I'm pretty confident they will be improved upon eventually)

How do you get supplies if you never have to leave your ship? Mining asteroids or using replicators or something?

Yeah, you mine using beams you can build on your ship. Everything you mine goes into your inventory. You can sell these are use them in crafting. (I've never used the crafting system though)

So what purpose does going to a planet serve? As just a place to build stuff?

      • _bmJun 23, 2016 at 12:41 PMΔ

You can build and mine. Depending on how powerful your ship is, mining from planets is a viable option. (Also they just look cool)

        Cool, thanks.

Call me when it's done. XD I own at least one Early Access game, but I prefer to wait until they're officially released. First impressions count for a great deal.

About to give it a try!
