What games do you miss playing?

What games do you miss playing, and why don't you play them anymore?

First legend of Zelda, Elite Beat Agents on the DS :)

  • reostraMay 17, 2016 at 8:15 AMΔ

City of Heroes: Because they won't let me.

I'm following the successors' projects pretty eagerly but crowd-sourced MMOs have yet to succeed so I'm trying to reign the optimism in.

    • Time_SpinnerMay 17, 2016 at 4:11 PM

Someday, an open-source MMO will be far enough along and documented enough that everyone can make their own City of Heroes. Someday.

WoW in WotLK. Loved the theme, the raids and the quests back then. Definitely my favorite expansion.

Other than that, I miss Crash Bandicoot. The games were so much fun, but they had to sell it to Activision and ruin all of the subsequent ones (except for Twinsanity, of course). Wish they'd make a new one, inspired by the first three.

Eve Online, that game is the most fun I've ever had as a gamer. It also caused for bad RL issues since I played it way to much. Wife was not impressed.

    • BeneatheverseMay 17, 2016 at 11:08 AM

Luckily my parents knew the dangers of mmos so they never let me keep playing haha. Too bad I'm an adult now and do what I want... so many hours...

I fear this is my No Man's Sky

      • JamesMay 17, 2016 at 12:44 PMΔ

Yeah, after 3 years of living the dream on Eve, I had to call it quits. No Man's Sky looks incredible but if its as much of a draw as Eve was, I might have to stay far far away from it.

I miss playing games in general.

When I was a bit younger, I was almost addicted to gaming. During the school year, I'd come home at like 3 and play until 10, stopping only to eat dinner or use the bathroom. Over the summer, I'd wake up at noon, play until dinner, then play again until I stopped at 2 or 3 am to go to bed (I really didn't have anything else to do). I'd have to do things on occasion, that would cut that time back, but I basically played all day.

Eventually, I found friends, and that cut my time back a bit. When I'd get the chance, I'd go hang out with them instead of staying home. School started adding a higher work load onto me, so I'd spend more time on homework than playing anything. Then, I got a job, and that took most of my free time.

At my height, I was playing probably 35 - 40 hours a week, and at my average, maybe 20 - 30. Steam told me I've played 10 in the past two weeks. I remember checking and seeing that I had less than 5 in two weeks, when I was working a lot.

Even when I'm off, I have other things to do. Friends start calling me to hang out. School work needs to get done. Errands need to be ran. Other hobbies need to be tended to. Sleep needs to be caught up. It makes me sad that the hobby I loved most is so far gone from me these days.

I miss Modern Warfare 2, that I played constantly with my friends until the next game came out, then have forgotten about for the past 6 years.

I miss Battlefield 3, that I played with one of my friends, until he got a job and left me to play alone again, and Battlefield 4 came out.

I miss Civilization V, that I used to play a good amount, but now I don't have time to sit down for 2 - 5 hours to finish a game.

  • MissMasterMay 17, 2016 at 8:58 AMΔ

Not a specific game, but I really miss good text adventures. The first computer game I ever played was Zork when I was 7 or 8. My mom and I used to sit at the household computer and she typed while I kept the maps and notes. I've tried to find new ones on interactive fiction sites, but there doesn't seem to be much interest in creating new ones anymore. Some new indie games market themselves as interactive fiction, but they are more interactive novels that are very linear and don't have any challenge.

I don't know how much interest qualifies as "much interest" but there's still a niche group creating them. There's enough for a yearly competition, so that should give you a few to start with :)

I miss playing WoW in BC... Had so much fun, and Arena was crazy with how fast it all went.

Also miss playing Smite Arena League. Enjoyed Smite altogether, but the fast game play in Arena League just made the game so much more fun and unique for a Moba.

  • tesselodeMay 17, 2016 at 8:03 AM

I used to play a ton of StepMania, which is a DDR clone for PC! But I eventually I just overplayed it and got tired of it. Also, the community seems to have slowed down a good amount, and that was the real fun of it. One of the coolest things for me were the themes; you can change everything about the interface and make some really cool vibes, but not many people are doing that anymore.

    Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast

    • SaicredMay 18, 2016 at 12:28 PMΔ

Dreamcast! - What about Crazy Taxi!

      • pendulumpenMay 18, 2016 at 6:26 PM

Yes, Crazy Taxi as well! Also, Metropolis Street Racer, all the fighting games, the sonic games, Shenmue... I miss everything :(

  • Daredevil22May 17, 2016 at 9:13 AM

I really miss Skyrim, and i can't play it anymore cause now i have a ps4. So it's good and bad :) :(

  • BeneatheverseMay 17, 2016 at 11:07 AM

Definitely going to go with Warlords 3. Probably my favorite strategy game of all time. It's too bad that no one else even knows about it. Either that or Diablo 2. It's hard finding people that don't just want to max level immediately or don't use mods

  • SlaymoreMay 19, 2016 at 9:48 PM

The Last of Us. It's one of my favourite games of all time but I don't think I can play it again for a long time, if ever. It's very story based and becomes an emotional experience in which you become invested in the characters, who feel as real as video game characters can be. Playing it again just wouldn't be the same experience.

  • ShattoMay 18, 2016 at 8:00 AMΔ

Psy Ops, old PS2 game, we were led to believe there would be a sequel.

  • jeremymurrayMay 19, 2016 at 2:00 PMΔ

Quake 3 multiplayer (never been anything like it; QL community is not quite the same), Nox (crazy fun multiplayer; abandonware), adventure games like Legend of Kyrandia (there a few new ones, but I miss the genre being popular), MUDs (no time for MMOs, even text ones), Acrophobia and other semi-competitive online creative word games (original was staple of my first web community, but it closed down; haven't found a good modern one yet)

  • BuddhaMay 18, 2016 at 12:49 AM

Soldier of fortune 2. It was the best when I was in school. Played everyday.

  • Fate_AxyomMay 17, 2016 at 12:59 PM

Runescape I guess.. I played it for years starting in my middle school years and it was really fun for me back then. Every few months I come back and play it but it doesn't feel the same anymore. It's not a bad game, I think it's an even better game now actually but It just isn't for me anymore. That's too bad.
