Any suggestions on cat-proofing my house plants?
I love cats. I love plants.
Unfortunately, these two things do not always go well together.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to kitty-proof house plants? She's not usually interested in the plants themselves, but LOVES digging in the dirt and knocking pots over.
Would it harm most indoor plants to have plastic stretched over the dirt? (I grew up in a desert and now live in Oregon, which means I tend to over-water and give my plants root rot. Would covering the dirt make that worse?)
Would be grateful for any suggestions!

Covering the dirt with plastic would definitely make you root rot problem worse.
So the main thing is to make the dirt not so lovely and pleasant for a kitty to dig in. You can stretch chicken wire or mesh across the surface, with a hole cut out for the plant, use landscape staples to hold it down. Or use a chunky mulch on top of the soil like bark chips or a pile of pinecones.
Full disclaimer: these are outdoor tactics but they should be fine for indoor containers, unless someone who knows better shows up and says "well actually, bark chips in containers blah blah." Honestly i think the mulch will help regulate your moisture though.
Chicken wire/mesh is a great idea! I don't think a kind of soil exists that she won't play with... She's currently obsessed with the decorative pebbles I was foolish enough to leave in the bottom of a candle holder, and wood chips are her favorite thing to roll around in. But wire/mesh might make her lose interest. Thanks!
