How was your gardening this weekend?
I wanted so badly to transplant my cooler crops this weekend since it was warmer and then it's going to rain a bunch this week (theoretically.) But between baby-wrangling and randomly getting a 24-hr virus... I only managed to transplant 27 beets. And I've read mixed reviews on if beets even survive transplanting, this is my first year trying, so... i hope it works. I also need to weed whack the winter cover crop that's in most of the beds and then smother it with a deep layer of mulch which i need to pick up from somewhere (thinking of using straw this year) before i can transplant the rest.
So yeah that didn't happen. And we're not even going to discuss the work the flower beds need.
So, anyone have a better weekend? Or what are your upcoming plans? Keep my spirits up :)

I transplanted a plumeria I'm 99% sure is dead. (The thing had terrible root rot -- it rained right before I brought it in for the winter and the soil never dried out.) But my husband is absolutely CONVINCED that we should give it another season to recover... So it's sitting, dead, in a pot on my back patio.
I also transplanted a rose, which is thriving, and am planning to cut back the comfrey because I'm pretty sure it's going to take over the world if I let it.
And I'm looking forward to our neighborhood's annual Master Gardener Plant Sale! Going to try a couple new species of tomatoes. Mine all got sick last year... Pretty sure I hit at least half the diseases on this list: http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/gardens-gardening/your-garden/help-for-the-home-gardener/advice-tips-resources/visual-guides/tomato-fruit-problems.aspx My tomato goal this year is to have ONE healthy plant!
yeah, i've heard comfrey is insane! but so good for compost. i have considered growing some, almost nothing is invasive here, it gets either too hot, too cold, or too dry XD
I'm giving my japanese maple another season to recover.. even though it still has dried up leaves from 2 years ago on it.. yeah it's totally dead. but just in case...
would love to see the roses sometime! good luck with your tomatoes :)
I'll post pictures if the rose blooms this year! I got it last year, so hopefully it's old and settled enough to start putting out flowers.
Comfrey is CRAZY. I don't even remember if I planted it or if it just showed up, but it's already about three feet tall and four feet across and it's only April! But then, I'm in Oregon, so it's a SUPER plant-friendly climate. Are you in a desert-y region? I lived in southeastern Idaho for years and it was definitely a harsher experience, garden-wise...
yup, i'm in salt lake, utah, so ithink it's about the same rainfall & winter as that area of idaho, but gets hotter in the summer.
Well today I've managed to plant the rest of my beets and get holes poked for lettuce. So much more to do! I need to sow or transplant lettuce, kale, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, onions, chard, spinach... It'll be a long slow week at this rate.
