Your garden in autumn

For those of us in the northern hemisphere, autumn is quickly approaching or already here.

For vegetable gardens this usually means harvests are finishing and the garden will be cleaned up for the winter. Some of us continue to plant crops that like cool weather. Or if you live somewhere warm, maybe it's finally time to start some new plants for your winter season, you lucky dogs, you.

Maybe you're putting in the last round of flowers, or planting new bulbs and shrubs for next year.

What's going on in your garden right now?

In my garden the days have cooled down but tomato and pepper production are still going strong. I won't be taking those out for another month and a half if I'm lucky. I started a new patch of lettuces and mesclun mixes a couple weeks ago and they've sprouted but are growing pretty slow...of course i always think it's too slow. Almost everything else is already done or i have to wait until frost to harvest--winter squash/pumpkins and popcorn. I am planting cover crops in the empty beds for winter.

I keep eyeballing the tulip, lily and crocus bulbs at the store but I still don't have a designated place to plant them so I'm refraining. Perhaps next year I'll whip my flower beds into shape :P
