Daily Comic Thread: October 11, 2016

Okay, so maybe these comic threads aren't "daily." More of a goal than a schedule!

Language is a funny thing. A simple confusion between two words represented with distantly similar vocal grunts (or in this case, uh, telepathic signals?) can create a life-or-death scenario for a spider.

On that note, does Garfield really kill the spiders? Most spider strips show the spider still able to communicate post-squash. Is it a dying spider or just a badly injured spider? If spiders are able to revive from being swatted, then maybe "spiders having eight lives" really is true in the Garfieldiverse?

On the second or third read of this comic, the acute reader might spot something interesting — Davis references tha old adage, "cats have nine lives," and Garfield is a cat. Having these clever details that you don't pick up on in the first read is a sign of masterful writing.
