What is the Geek Movie of the Month?
November was a pretty big month for Science Fiction and Fantasy movies! Why did you pick what you voted for?

I have only seen Fantastic Beasts, but I'm leaning towards the Arrival. They all 3 have good reviews, but the other two seem more problematic in some aspects. Plus as far as I know The Arrival is not from any pre-existing franchise, which is fun.
I'm in the same boat. I've only seen Fantastic Beasts but the Arrival really sounds like a great or even a Fantastic movie. :P
Yes. I hope I have time/opportunity to see it in theatres.
Same here. I'm going to try and make time this weekend.
But this weekend and next are looking a bit full for me but we'll see.
Yeah it's already out of a couple nearby theaters but I'm hoping the last one doesn't replace it with new movies this week.
Hah, I just realized it's not out here until Friday, so I thankfully have a bit more time.
Like it's just now coming to your theater?
To the country I believe. I saw the trailer like a month ago so I assumed it was already out.
Ahh ok, well that's good for you then.
All three look amazing!!!!
Yeah it was a great month in Geeky movies!
I'm probably most excited for The Arrival.
Yeah, I've seen Fantastic Beasts so the Arrival is the one I'm still the most excited to see.
I will have to come back to this poll after seeing Fantastic Beasts. I'm leaning toward Arrival.
I highly recommend it. However, I haven't seen the Arrival yet so my vote may change in the future.
Saw all three of these over the holiday, and I had to really think for a bit before picking The Arrival. It wasn't that it was a perfect movie, or even a movie that I'll feel the need to see again, but it did pull ahead of the others in some areas I felt pretty strongly about. Dr. Strange was gorgeous fun and had some good performances, but I felt that it was kind of predictable, the whitewashing left a bad taste in my mouth (also it hit one of the big tropes for women's roles in movies that made me roll my eyes so hard I sprained something), and was oddly disjointed in places. Fantastic Beasts was kind of the same, with a younger slant and a slightly less cohesive plot. *
The Arrival had its issues: it was slow and kind of frustrating at times, the performances were OK but the roles didn't feel terribly meaty, and the movie (for lack of a better description) didn't end where I thought it would in the story's timeline. It was no The Martian to me, but it was thought-provoking, it had great use of tension, and it just did a better job of giving me feels.
Thanks for that great analysis, did you read the short story it was based on?
I did not! So, can't give any input on how it matches up. (and if my comment above about the story's timeline was confusing, i meant that in an internal-to-the-movie way. It tells its story in kind of a nonlinear way, and that made the ending seem a bit...underbaked and undeveloped, to me.)
Ahh I had the impression that you had but your clarification makes sense.
