The Ghosts of Pickering Trail
When Frank Milliken died in his home, his wife Janet and their two children couldn't bear to live among reminders of him. They left their home in California and moved to Pennsylvania to start over in new surroundings. The house they bought, an airy colonial on a quiet street, seemed idyllic.

A somewhat different kind of "ghost story," but a good one about the effects of living in a place haunted by past violence.

That was a long, but fascinating read. I admire the effort Bell undertook to create a rubric of quantitative analysis for stigmatised locations. I laughed at the rebuttal to Bell that claimed this (unlike other forms of market value) were purely speculative!
I felt the same way. The California law requiring disclosure of a death within 3 years seems reasonable to me.
I was disappointed to learn tjey lost their last appeal but it's great that they aren't so afraid of the house any more. Reading that last part about the white paint in the spot where she knelt gave me chills!
