provides a way for people with gut and yeast related issues to exchange experience/knowledge about their condition.
Getting well sometimes take determination and, unfortunately: alot of time...
It is important to realize that when you are making changes for the better, which in turn progresses your healing (killing yeast overgrowth, releasing toxins) - it may subjectively make you feel like you are getting worse for a while. This dynamic can happen over and over again for many years. I do not have scientific references to back up the following, but with all my years of dealing with this condition of mine, I know it to be true: I had an initial intoxication or temporary hepatoxic event of some sort over 12 years ago, which lead to a severe state of ammonia and copper toxicity (I do not know whether I was intoxicated by copper itself, or if the impact in the body of some other intoxication subsequently lead to copper toxicity, or whether I have had a Urea Cycle disorder since birth that through the intoxication pushed me over for good and left me in this sorry state). Anyways, the immediate symptoms subsided, but I never got well - and the YeastInfection made me a de-funct human being in just about all aspects of life. An example to exemplify how strangely the body can go about its bussiness and how far outside the mainstream medical theory it can get: 8 years later I introduced SF722 in my regimen and suddenly all the initial symptoms from 8 years prior re-appeared (!!). The same has happened several times after that as I have introduced different antifungals and kept a strict diet. What must be happening is that heavy metals (or other toxins) are "locked away" by yeast colonies and bad bacteria (dysbiosis) in the gut. Once you start killing the yeast, the toxins are suddenly released and you are literally being re-intoxicated, while some of the toxins make it all the way out of the body. Re-intoxication means re-experiencing the symptoms of toxicity whatever they may be depending on what toxins you have tucked away. Remember that your intestines can cover almost a football field of real estate and that they function as the bodys first line of defence. For me the symptoms at toxin release were OCD, scattered thoughts/racing mind, frequently crashing and falling asleep, aching joints, feeling cold, alienation to my surroundings, complete loss of libidio, hormonal disturbances, and so on.
Strangely enough, with amalgam fillings everyone readily accepts the premise of heavy metal storage deposits in the fatty tissues of the body. At the same time there is little, or no acceptance that most toxins can accumulate in the body. Heavy metals are rarely even considered as the source of your health problems if you go to a mainstream doctor. A routine blood sample is the best you can hope for. Needless to say, you will most likely appear to be extremely healthy from those tests, even if you feel severely ill. The presently most reliable tests for heavy metals are hair mineral tests and challenge tests, and even those are not very reliable. They are however, reliable enough to consistently reflect most serious intoxications and also the changes you make in your diet if you do several tests over time. I have verified this myself through multiple tests throughout the years. Testing for other toxins seems to be out of reach for regular folks, unless you know which toxin to specifically test for. When it comes to copper it is in a grey zone as it is utilized and necessary in the body, but it becomes very toxic when in excess (and it is classified as a heavy metal). If the body is overburdened by for example a heavy metal toxicity, you are prone to re-occuring yeast infections, and all the sub-conditions that follow (liver problems, adrenal problems, depression/anxiety, fatigue, joint aches, brain fog, and so on). If you have high ammonia levels this is the "smoking gun indicator" of problems with your detoxification pathways. High ammonia in itself produces alot of symptoms. The medical profession is yet to acknowledge that slight ammonia toxicity can create problems in people who are otherwise not hospitalized or does not have serious liver diseases. I recognized my own problems with high brain levels of ammonia when I introduced Alpha-Keto-Glucaric Acid in my supplement regimen. The "sheath" or "helmet" on top of my head (at lack of a better description - this is how it subjectively felt) became less pronounced in a matter of days.
However, supplementing with Alpha-Keto-Glucaric Acid may result in high glutamate, which means more stress and more anxiety. High glutamate can then again be lowered by supplementing with L-theanine. And so the patchwork of trying to alleviate your problems continues. For every supplement you introduce the problem is pushed one step further down the chain. At many stages in the healing of severe heavy metal and/or ammonia toxicity (with accompanying yeast infections) you will feel lost, frustrated, and like a crazy person for having 20 odd supplements in your cupboard. And you will most likely not find anyone who will support you or remotely understand what your struggle is about.
Another issue is that Yeast overgrowth in itself taxes your detoxification organs, while toxins are the source of your Yeast problems. It is a Catch22 that means that once the body is overburdened it is prone to continue accumulating toxins at a higher rate than they are being eliminated. This dynamic will, in some people who are genetically pre-disposed, not resolve itself unless they take active part in their own healing process. The same goes for copper toxicity - excess copper stresses the adrenals, and at the same time the adrenals are needed to remove the excess copper. And the copper is probably the reason you are having yeast issues in the first place, and why your detox systems are working at a slower rate. This can prove to be a deadlock for many people. Taking an active part in the healing process is very difficult because most regular doctors will not acknowledge that your problem is real in the first place.
Key concepts to look for when trying to find someone who can help you: nutritional program, methylation cycle, MTHFR, Yeast Infections, Adrenal fatigue, Hair Mineral Analysis, Heavy metal challenge test,
Supplements that would probably give you an indication if you are on the right track right off the bat (which may be cheaper that trying to identify the issue first, by going to several practitioners): SAM-e, Iodine, Liposomal Glutathione, Butyric Acid, SF722.
Self discipline and perseverance is most likely the only thing that may get you well in the end, especially if you have a severe toxicity underlying your yeasts infection.
