Fandom blog filled with squee, pics and maybe occasionally some fic
Achievement Unlocked
On 1st July I started writing a hockey fic for Camp NaNoWriMo. Initially I set myself a word goal of 20k in a month but when I started planning I didn't think I had 20k worth of plot so I downgraded to 15k. I spent the month just getting words down on the page and figured I'd sort it out during the editing process. I managed to hit my 15k goal (only just - my first draft final word count was 15, 259) and from 1st August onwards I've been working on the mammoth editing task.
Yesterday I finally finished \o/
The fic is now with my betas and if all goes well and I don't have to make any major changes I should be ready to post some time next week.
And I guess my initial guess for a word count was accurate because this was the final number.
I've been saying for years that I can't write long fics anymore. I guess I just proved myself wrong.

This inspires me to GET ON my long story, so thank you! Also eeee I'm so excited to read this. :D
I'm going back to short fics now :-p
I wish I could. My characters talk too much.
...looking at everyone else's comments, I'm feeling a bit...errr... the first draft of my long fic is 129k. This sounds like a good thing, but I've been editing it for almost a year. hides under rock
OMG I couldn't even imagine writing something that long :-o
Awesome! Congratulations on meeting your weekend goal! And for writing long!
My longest fic to date is just shy of 8,600 words and I'm still not sure how I managed to make it that long! The one I'm working on now might -- might! -- break that, or come close, but I'll just be happy to have it done when that happens!
I look forward to reading your fic when you post!
I wrote a 29k fic in the Supernatural fandom but that was several years ago. This is the closest I've come in a long time.
I think I'm going to go back to shorter fics after this :D
I write "short" non-fiction via work on a regular basis. The constant demand for "concise, factual and to the point" at work makes it really hard to write long and fictional for funsies. But I do what I can! (Part of me would love to have a long fic, just once, just to prove to myself that I can do it. But I love writing short fic, too!)
Something like Camp NaNo is fun because it forces you to focus on just getting words on the page. I wrote 15k in 3 weeks because I wasn't worrying about the quality.
It does mean the editing took 3 months though ;)
Congrats! What's the fic about?
That'll spoil the surprise :D
haha I guess I'll just have to check for when you post it!
