Ninefox Gambit

Ninefox Gambit

‘Ninefox Gambit’ was really enjoyable – I’d almost been scared off by some reviews I’d seen talking about the complexity of the science and setting of the story, which would have been a shame. The Calendrical science is certainly complex, but nothing hinges on the reader understanding something about it that isn’t explained by the characters or the action of the moment, so it’s perfectly readable as 'something that happens’. This is a great SF adventure, the plots are suitably twisty, and the dramas of command quite engaging, and after finishing it, I’m left really looking forward to seeing where the next book goes.

I feel like I’ve seen this idea on a MtG card before, but can’t quite remember where. But since a major feature of the book is the ‘dead’ traitor general fused to the main character, so that she can exploit his knowledge and ability, it seemed very fitting.
