Is there a reason why Stripe requires our full SSN? I looked into Stripe and on their website they only mention that last 4 of our SSN, but the form is asking for our full SSN.

They probably want the SSN for tax purposes. The imzy tipping system can be used as a payment portal for goods or services. (I commissioned an avatar that way.) It also has the potential to be misappropriated.
That said, I'm not comfortable giving them my full ID.
Will you give it to me?
Obviously. I mean, I know you.
No way I'd give them my SSN.
Wait...what if you're not American and therefore don't HAVE a social security number (speaking of which, could people make a bigger effort to write out the acronyms for U.S.-specific terms that the rest of the world might not immediately recognize? thanks!).
From the Patriot Act banking info requirements: For non-U.S. citizens who do not have a SSN, one of the following numbers can be used:
No idea if Stripe's signup page actually allows those, though.
The reason Stripe requires your full SSN is section 326 of the Patriot Act.
Yay! Just another reason the Patriot Act is great. /S
It wants me to send something, but won't tell me what. Not going to lie, I'm pretty confused.
I already have a stripe account and would much rather pass on that information than specify all my bank information. Can we do that?
It shouldn't ever ask you for your SSN when you first enter your bank account, but sometimes Stripe does come back and ask for additional information if they aren't able to verify everything. Especially with smaller charges like tips tend to be on Imzy, they seem to think they might be more suspicious so they frequently ask for more information.
Not sure if it makes a difference, but it asked for mine pretty immediately. Also, the form doesn't make it clear that you have to put the dashes in yourself or it won't accept it.
Yeah same here. No tips yet, but just adding details to send and receive tips then this made me question that decision. The full SSN requirement seems odd, generally you can be verified by the last 4.
Payment processors ARE really skittish though. Or else they're Paypal and will suspend your account at the drop of a hat.
Hmm, well they do try to verify that your bank account is valid when you add it, so I guess that's possible that they would ask for it. We did originally just have the last four of your SSN, but then Stripe asked for the full SSN on like 98% of the people it asked for the last four of the SSN for, so we just escalated it to the full thing rather than making you do both two minutes apart.
I'll look into the dashes thing though. We should at least be able to fix that part.
I'm just hesitant to enter personal information. With all the information requested it makes identify theft a breeze.
Is this form an embedded form from Stripe or does Imzy submit the data to Stripe?
This is an embedded form from Stripe. The info is literally never ever stored on our servers.Edit: Oops, I was only partially correct on this. The form is not embedded from Stripe—it's actually on our site—but the principle is the same. We still just pass the information directly to Stripe and never store it on our servers.
Thanks.
Or both.
As an aside, it's ultimately the IRS who tells Stripe whether or not you're verified; and the IRS already has access to your name, address, bank accounts, and social...
