Flashy
I know we can block out all images now, but I don't want to do that. I want to either make gifs pause or find some way to make flashy images stop or be hidden behind a NSFW or Spoiler or a HEY IF FLASHY BOTHERS YOU DON'T LOOK AT THIS filter.

We're working on an option that will give you the ability to have images/gifs collapsed by default. We're just working on a lot of other things too. So it'll happen... somewhere between now and eventually. Hopefully on the sooner end!
Yeah, that seems to be an option now. At the top of the main feed I can hide all images. But I like images. I don't even mind gifs, usually. It's just the flashy ones that are a problem.
There's not really a way for us to be able to know if a gif is flashy or not. So we're just working on adding the ability for you to collapse them so if you're in a comment thread that has them, you can hide them if you don't want to see them or expand them if you do.
FWIW, I use a plug-in on Firefox that by default has all gifs paused unless/until you mouse over them (and pauses them again when you mouse away). It's called gif delayer.
I'll look to see if something like that is available on chrome.
I think this was my fault. Sorry!!!
You didn't know, and it isn't the first time! Nothing happened. Just want to figure out if there's a way to make sure nothing happens.
aw
I put a NSFW on it just in case though
Thanks! You rock!
Those who lived through the original coming of the gif know good taste did eventually win out. Unless you delve into somewhere like FUBAR which is a time capsul to the early days of chat rooms and such.
Oh, I remember. Actually, that was the main reason I first got adblock. I'd adblock images that were causing me problems. Geocities/angelfire color schemes were also a nightmare. Yes, please do hot pink on neon blue with random gifs throughout the page. Add 40 construction signs and some bright green here and there and it'll be perfect! I don't even remember what browser or settings I had in the mid 90s, but I know I had to mess with accessibility options and had everything set to white on black just to spare my head.
Oh the construction signs! I'm actually looking forward to when VR catches up and we're able to mill about virtually. Virtual Worlds? That had the 3D avatars in space. There was another where you would have your avatar over the web page, every URL could bea different "room" and people would decorate their pages with furniture and such.
There was even a "bus" feature where everyone could hop on and the guide could bring you to different pages.
I know this digressed from the original topic but geocities brought me back!
I know that on the app they are now paused. Could something like that be implemented site wide I wonder?
Yeah, I like that on the app. Alas, my phone tried to explode on me and I'm waiting for the replacement. So I'm using my daughter's phone and trying not to mess with her settings too much. (I did turn off her skype notifications, because I do not need that much teenage drama in my life! Also, I'm not going to pry into her main connection with her friends without being invited.)
I like this idea a lot. I do think it's something we should do. I know visuals without warning can be difficult. I have to scroll by quickly if they are too intense or flashy.
There's one right now on my feed that I'm glad I noticed before I scrolled entirely on, because the bit I did see I'm sure would not have gone well given my current doing-everything-I-shouldn't-be-doingness.
Yeah I have had a couple pop up during giphy roulette that I have straight up deleted. One I really like is on my personal community but because I know it might cause problems for others I have it hidden behind a spoiler.
